It commemorates the efforts and contributions of Bill Long during his days in the Ontario Hockey League, spanning over three decades as a coach and manager of the Niagara Falls Flyers, Ottawa 67’s and London Knights.   “Dr. Bob Neville’s passion for this League is unmistakable, and so is the genuine care he brings to every conversation,” said OHL Commissioner Bryan Crawford. “For nearly four decades he has been a steady and devoted voice for the Peterborough Petes, and his insight around our Executive Council table has made all of us better. Bob asks the right questions, he thinks about what is best for the players first, and he offers the kind of wisdom that only comes from a lifetime of service. He is a most deserving recipient of the Bill Long Award.”   Neville began with the Petes in 1987 as the club’s team physician, travelling to road games and joining the team at the Memorial Cup in 1989 and 1993. He was invited to join the Petes Board of Directors in 1995, chaired the club’s successful bid to host the 1996 Memorial Cup and served as Chairman of that tournament.   He was a member of the Peterborough Memorial Centre’s Renovation Committee in 2000 and served as President of the Petes Board of Directors from 2002 to 2005. He currently serves as Governor of the Petes Board of Directors.   Neville was elected to the Executive Council of the OHL Board of Governors in 2005, where he has held the positions of Secretary and Treasurer of the Board before later serving as Chairman. He also serves as a member of multiple committees of the OHL Board of Governors.   Away from the rink, Neville is a family physician, occupational health physician, coroner and medical review officer. He has also served as an assistant professor of family medicine at Queen’s and McMaster universities, president of the Medical Centre in Peterborough and a board member of the Primary Health Care Service in Peterborough.   Neville becomes the fifth Peterborough Petes representative to receive the Bill Long Award, joining Pat Casey (2015-16), Jeff Twohey (2005-06), Norm Bryan (2002-03) and Herb Warr (1991-92).   For a full list of OHL award winners, click here.]]> https://chl.ca/ohl-petes/article/canucks-sign-adam-novotny-to-three-year-entry-level-contract Tue, 11 Aug 2026 20:17:59 +0000 admin https://chl.ca/ohl-petes/article/canucks-sign-adam-novotny-to-three-year-entry-level-contract The Vancouver Canucks announced today that they have signed Petes forward Adam Novotný to a three-year, entry level contract.   Novotný, a forward from Kobylice, Czechia, was selected by the Canucks in the first round, 24th overall, in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, after spending the 2025-26 season with the Petes. Peterborough originally selected him in the first round, 8th overall, of the 2024 CHL Import Draft. In his first season in Peterborough, Novotný played in 58 games, scoring 34 goals and adding 31 assists for 65 points.   “Congratulations to Adam on this amazing accomplishment,” said Petes General Manager and Vice President of Operations Michael Oke. “Adam has certainly put the work in to reach this point in his career, and it comes as no surprise to any of us on the staff to see him achieve this milestone. I’d also like to extend a congratulations to the Novotny family, who have supported Adam through every step of his hockey journey. We’re all incredibly proud of what he has accomplished so far in his career and are looking forward to supporting him as he continues to work towards his goal of playing in the NHL.”   Before coming to Peterborough, the 2007-born forward featured in 41 games for Mountfield HK in Czechia’s top professional league, scoring one goal and adding two assists for three points. He also featured in 10 playoff games for Mountfield, scoring twice. In 2023, Novotný made his debut in the Czech Extraliga for Mountfield, scoring in his first game and becoming the youngest player to score a goal in the league at 15.   “We are so happy for Adam, earning his entry-level contract with the Vancouver Canucks,” noted Petes Director of Player Personnel and Assistant Coach Patrick O’Connor. “Working with him every day, it is no surprise that he’s accomplished this. He is an elite athlete who is fully committed to developing and becoming a professional player in the NHL. This could not have happened to a nicer young man. Congratulations, Adam, you’ve earned it.”   Vancouver Canucks General Manager Ryan Johnson had this to say about the signing in a media release sent out by the team:    “Character, compete and a winning mentality, those are three of the things we really appreciate about Adam’s DNA. It was a small sample size, but he showed us a lot at our development camp last month in Abbotsford. Besides his strong skating, puck control, and quick release, Adam was relentless in his pursuit of the puck and battled very hard in each drill.  A coachable and honest player, his leadership qualities were also noticeable, and you could tell right away how committed he is to try to do things the right way. I’m very eager to get going and make a positive impact on the team.”   Quinn, a native of Little Britain, ON, was selected by the Petes in the third round, 59th overall, of the 2026 OHL Priority Selection. In 28 games with the Toronto Marlboros U16s last season, he scored 15 goals and added 10 assists for 25 points. The 2010-born forward also helped the Marlboros qualify for the 2026 OHL Cup, where he added a goal in four games. I can’t wait to get going.”   Dennis, from Ithaca, NY, was originally selected by the Bulldogs in the sixth round, 109th overall, in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection. Dennis joined the Bulldogs last season after recording 34 points in 55 USHL games with the Dubuque Fighting Saints in 2024-25. In his first season in the OHL with Brantford, he played in all 68 games, scoring 34 goals (second on the team) and adding 40 assists for 74 points. He also had seven points in 15 playoff games, helping the Bulldogs reach the Eastern Conference Finals.   “I’m a quick player who doesn’t stop moving his feet,” continued Dennis. “I like to battle, create opportunities, and put the puck in the back of the net.”   Last season, Dennis also led the OHL in +/- with a +48. Dennis is currently committed to continue his hockey and academic career at the University of Michigan when his time in the OHL is complete.   "We're very excited to add a player of Cooper's caliber to our roster," said Oke. “Heading into the summer, we identified him as our number one target to acquire during the offseason. Analytics show that he’s one of, if not the top forward returning to the OHL this season. We believe Cooper is an excellent fit for our lineup and will complement our returning core well."   Going the other way in the deal is 2009-born forward Kaden McGregor. McGregor is coming off of his first season in the OHL, where he tallied 20 points in 39 games.   "We had to make the difficult decision to move Kaden to complete this deal," continued Oke. "It's never easy to trade a young, talented player like Kaden, but we've had to make similar very difficult decisions in the past. Now the real work begins.”    Roulston, from Oakville, ON, was selected by the Petes in the first round, 13th overall, of the 2026 OHL Priority Selection. The 6’2” forward played in 33 games with the Vaughan Kings U16s of the GTHL this season. In those 33 games, he scored 18 goals and added 20 assists for 38 points, good enough for second on his team. After helping the Kings win the GTHL Championship, he scored one goal and added three assists for four points in four OHL Cup games.   “We’re very excited to welcome Landon to Peterborough,” said Oke. “Landon is a big, strong, two-way forward who loves to compete. He made a strong impression both on and off the ice at Development Camp earlier in June, and is someone who possesses the skill and character that we look for in a Peterborough Pete.”   This past season was Roulston’s second playing U16 hockey in the GTHL. In 2024-25, he played 26 for the Toronto Marlboros U16s, picking up 17 points. In those two seasons, McMurray totaled 78 points in 65 games. A product of the Central Ontario Wolves organization, McMurray played for the Peterborough Petes U18s in 2023-24, leading the team in points with 47 in 34 games played. That same season, he featured in three games for the Lindsay Muskies of the OJHL, picking up an assist.   “James is a player we've been tracking since his days with the Central Ontario Wolves,” said Oke. “We got to know him well during his time with the U18 Petes and when he attended our Development Camp in 2024. I'm looking forward to working hard every day and doing everything I can to help the team achieve its goals. I really appreciate this opportunity from Mr. Oke and the rest of the Petes staff.”   Nelson, a native of Hudson, Wisconsin, appeared in 26 games with the Tri-City Storm of the USHL last season, posting a 2.92 goals-against average (GAA) and a .909 save percentage (SV%). He also saw action in one playoff game, recording a 1.61 GAA and a .955 SV%. During the 2024–25 season, Nelson also played high school hockey for Cretin-Derham Hall in Minnesota, where he earned 20 wins while posting a 1.71 GAA and a .926 SV%. He recently attended the Peterborough Petes' Development Camp as a free-agent invitee.   “We’re very excited to welcome Owen to the Peterborough Petes,” said Oke. “Owen is a big, athletic goaltender who moves well and is coming off a solid season with Tri-City in the USHL. The Peterborough Petes made one selection, drafting Czech forward Patrik Poláček with the 37th overall pick.   “Patrik is a big, strong forward who plays physically, forechecks hard, and drives the net,” noted Petes General Manager and Vice President of Operations Michael Oke. “Our coaching staff, scouts, and myself have had the opportunity to watch him on video and in-person at various international events, where he made a favourable impression on all of us. We believe that Patrik demonstrates the qualities that we look for in a Peterborough Pete and are excited to add him to our prospect pool.”   Poláček, a 6’5” forward from Praha, Czechia, finished second in the Extraliga dorostu U17 league last season, scoring 36 goals and adding 31 assists for 67 points in 42 games for HC Sparta Praha U17. He added another 17 points in 12 playoff games, leading the league in scoring and helping Sparta Praha U17 to a championship. Poláček also played in four games for Sparta Praha u20 this season, scoring twice and adding three assists for five points.   Poláček has represented his home nation of Czechia at the U17 level. In 2025-26, he played in 25 games for the U17 program, picking up 15 points.
