Petes edged by Frontenacs
The Kingston Frontenacs closed out the season series with the Petes with a 6-5 win at the PMC on Thursday night.
The Frontenacs built a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Tyler J. Brown at 5:22 and Ethan Werek at 12:02 dispite the Petes out shooting the Frontenacs 16-14 after 20 minutes.
The Petes cut into the Frontenacs lead early in the second period on Lino Martschini’s 16th goal of the season at 6:23but the Fronts restored their 2 goal lead just 2 minutes lateron a blast from Mitch Gaulton. Ethan Werek notched his second of the game at the 11 minute mark but again the Petes mounted a comeback with a pair of powerplay goals by Austin Watson at 13:30 and Alan Quine at 15:06 to close out the period with the Petes trailing 4-3.
Werek completed the hat-trick just 45 seconds into the third period and ex-Pete Ryan Spooner recorded the eventual game winner at 9:26 before the Petes yet again made the game interesting with goals by Jeremy Gottzmann at 11:54 and Watson at 19:11 with Petes goaltender Bryce O’Hagan on the bench for the extra attacker to make the final 6-5 for the visitors.
Next action for the Petes is Friday night in Guelph before travelling to Belleville for Family Day Monday against the Bulls. The Petes next home game is Thursdya February 24th when they host the Bulls.
