OHL clubs will compete throughout November for the Moustache Cup, a Movember fundraising challenge that crowns the top fundraising team in the OHL.

Ontario Hockey League (OHL) clubs will compete throughout November for the Moustache Cup, a Movember fundraising challenge that crowns the top fundraising team in the OHL and in the Western Hockey League (WHL), with proceeds supporting men’s health programs including Breaking the Ice, a mental fitness program for young hockey players.

All 20 OHL clubs will turn the league’s usual competitive edge into a month-long push for men’s health — growing Mos, engaging fans and raising funds for Movember, the leading men’s health charity focused on mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. At the end of the month, the top fundraising team in each league will be crowned Moustache Cup champion.

The challenge builds on the OHL’s partnership with Movember, announced in September, that brought Breaking the Ice into all 20 OHL clubs. Funds raised through the Moustache Cup help support that work: Breaking the Ice, part of Movember’s global Ahead of the Game program, gives young players, coaches and parents practical tools to build mental fitness, recognize when someone may be struggling and have conversations that can make a difference. Delivered in partnership with the WHL and OHL, the program has reached more than 3,000 participants in community hockey — well ahead of its initial target of 1,100.

This November also marks Movember’s 20th annual campaign in Canada. Since launching here in 2007, Movember has brought communities together to raise funds, start important conversations and take action for men’s health. The need remains urgent: Canadian men live, on average, around four years less than women, with many of the causes of premature death being preventable.

“Hockey has always been about looking out for the guy beside you, and the Moustache Cup puts that same spirit to work for men’s health,” said OHL commissioner Bryan Crawford. “Our clubs love a little friendly rivalry, and if that helps raise funds and get conversations started this Movember, everybody wins.”

“Too many men are dying too young, often from preventable causes, and the impact of poor men’s health extends far beyond the individual to families and communities,” said Todd Minerson, country director for Movember Canada. “Hockey has a unique way of bringing people together and opening the door to conversations that might not happen anywhere else. Through the Moustache Cup, OHL and WHL teams are using that connection to raise funds and awareness for men’s health, while helping create a culture where young men feel more comfortable talking about their health and looking out for one another.”

Fans, players, staff and communities can support their club’s Movember campaign by getting involved, fundraising and donating. Donation Link Here

Breaking the Ice is designed to help change the culture around mental health in hockey. It encourages young men to look out for one another, open up about what they’re going through and understand that asking for help is a sign of strength.

In 1964-65 he finished with 119 points (45-74–119) in 49 games. The following year he led the league with 120 points (40-80–120) in 48 games, capturing the Eddie Powers Trophy as scoring champion and the William Hanley Trophy as the league's most sportsmanlike player. He won the Red Tilson Trophy as most valuable player in both seasons, becoming the first player to claim the award in consecutive years. That season, Lacroix centred Mickey Redmond and Danny Grant on what is arguably the greatest line in Petes history. The trio combined for 308 points in a 48-game schedule.

An original Flyer in the NHL's 1967-68 expansion season, Lacroix led Philadelphia in scoring in 1968-69 and again in 1969-70. Across six NHL seasons with the Flyers, Chicago Black Hawks and Hartford Whalers, he played 325 regular-season games and recorded 198 points (79-119–198).

It was in the WHA that he built his lasting professional legacy. Nicknamed "The Magician" for his puck-handling with the San Diego Mariners, Lacroix remains the league's all-time leader with 798 points (251-547–798) in 551 games. He won the Bill Hunter Trophy as WHA scoring champion in 1972-73 and 1974-75, posted six straight 100-point seasons, and set a then-pro single-season assist record with 106 assists in 1974-75. He was inducted into the WHA Hall of Fame as part of its inaugural class in 2010.

Internationally, Lacroix represented Canada in the 1974 Summit Series against the Soviet Union, recording seven points (1-6–7) in eight games and scoring the game-winning goal in Canada's only victory of the series, a 4-1 win in Game 2 at Maple Leaf Gardens.

In a statement, the Philadelphia Flyers said they "mourn the loss of original team member, André Lacroix."

"Lacroix's impact extended well beyond the ice," the club continued. "He was a beloved teammate who had a special ability to bring people together. His infectious personality and ability to light up any room he entered quickly made him an invaluable presence in the locker room and in the community. The Flyers organization extends its condolences to André's family, friends, former teammates and all those who knew and loved him."

The Ontario Hockey League extends its deepest condolences to André's family, friends, the Peterborough Petes and the wider hockey community.

The 2026-27 OHL season is finally here, and with it comes the return of Friday Night Faceoff for its second season! In partnership with FloHockey, YourTV, Rogers tv and Eastlink Community TV, all 20 OHL clubs will be featured at least twice on the initial schedule, with games available live and free across FloHockey’s Youtube channel.

The OHL Friday Night Faceoff spotlight shifts to Slush Puppie Place this week, as the Kingston Frontenacs welcome the Peterborough Petes for an East Division showdown. The two division rivals will meet for the third time this season. Fans can catch the action live and free on FloHockey’s YouTube channel, with puck drop set for 7:05 p.m.

Kingston enters Friday's matchup with plenty of momentum after sweeping its Rivalry Week series against the Ottawa 67's. The Frontenacs opened with a 4-2 victory on Friday, snapping Ottawa's four-game winning streak and seven-game point streak, before following it up with a convincing 6-1 win on Sunday. The pair of victories improved Kingston's record to 9-5-0-0, placing the club second in the East Division.

Offensively, the Frontenacs have been one of the league's most productive teams to open the 2026-27 campaign, leading the OHL with 62 goals scored through 14 games. Four players have already reached the 15-point mark, with Tomas Pobezal and Landon Wright leading the way with 17 points apiece. While Kingston has had no trouble finding the back of the net, the club has surrendered 57 goals.

Peterborough, meanwhile, will be looking to bounce back after splitting its Rivalry Week series against the Oshawa Generals. The Petes had been building momentum with three consecutive victories before being shut out by Oshawa on Friday. Sitting fifth in the East Division with a 6-8-0-0 record, Peterborough will look to find some consistency as it prepares to face a Kingston squad that has won both meetings between the clubs this season.

Despite their up-and-down start, the Petes have found offensive success through Vancouver Canucks first-rounder Adam Novotný and Cooper Dennis. Novotný leads the club in goals (7), assists (11) and points (18), while Dennis sits just behind him with 15 points (6-9–15). Special teams have also been a bright spot for Peterborough, with the Petes boasting the league's second-ranked power play at 30.5%.
