Stonehouse Scores in Home Loss to Ottawa
On Friday, February 14, the Peterborough Petes hosted the Ottawa 67’s for Fleming College Night at the PMC. The Petes were looking to jump back into the playoff race, after a loss in Ottawa on Wednesday dropped them seven points behind the 67’s in the race for 8th in the East. Liam Ladds was celebrating a milestone on the night, playing in his 100th OHL game.
Eight minutes into the first period, Edmonton Oilers prospect Brady Stonehouse opened the scoring for the Petes, picking up his first goal against his former team. With the goal, Stonehouse has now scored against every team in the OHL, including Hamilton, Brantford, Mississauga, and Brampton. Just when it looked like the Petes would take a lead into the intermission, the play was blown dead in Peterborough’s end with 1.9 seconds on the clock. The 67’s managed to score on the ensuing faceoff, tying the game at 1-1 with .7 seconds remaining in the period.
After a back and forth second, Ottawa would once again find the back of the net late in the period, this time scoring with 1:25 remaining to take a 2-1 lead into the break. They would get some insurance in the third, before adding an empty netter to take a 4-1 lead. For the second straight game, the Petes would be unable to solve 67’s OA goaltender Colin MacKenzie, who stopped 35/36 to secure the win for Ottawa.
