On Tuesday, December 31, the Peterborough Petes travelled to St. Catharines to take on the Niagara IceDogs for their final game of 2024. Former IceDogs captain Gavin Bryant was making his first visit to the Meridian Centre since being acquired by the Petes in October. Bryant scored twice, including the OT winner, in his only other matchup against the IceDogs since the trade, helping the Petes to a 4-3 win on December 1. Easton Rye was between the pipes for Peterborough, looking for his second win against Niagara this season.
It would be Carson Cameron striking first in the game, burying a puck to complete a set play off the draw. The goal would make it 1-0 Petes, just under seven minutes into the game. Peterborough extended their lead seven minutes later when Caden Taylor fed Gavin Bryant on a two on one. Bryant’s goal was his third in two games against his former team. The IceDogs came right back, getting on the board 15 seconds later, cutting the deficit to one. Two minutes after that, they would score again, taking advantage of a power play to make it 2-2 heading into the break.
After a scoreless second and both goalies looking strong, Niagara took the lead late in the third on an innocent looking shot that took a deflection. The Petes had a couple of chances to draw even in the final two minutes, but would be unable to find the back of the net, with the IceDogs taking the game by a score of 3-2.
Carson Cameron and Gavin Bryant both scored for the Petes, while Martin Matejicek, Brennan Faulkner, Caden Taylor, and Ryder McIntyre all picked up an assist. Easton Rye stopped 32/35 in the loss.
