Petes Mourn the Loss of Alumnus Greg Millen
The Peterborough Petes are deeply saddened by the loss of alumnus and longtime Peterborough area resident Greg Millen.
Millen played for the Petes from 1974-1977, appearing in 144 games in net for the Maroon and White over three seasons. He was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the sixth round of the 1977 NHL Entry Draft, going on to play over 600 games in the NHL. Over his 14 year NHL career, Millen played for the Penguins, Hartford Whalers, St. Louis Blues, Quebec Nordiques, Chicago Blackhawks, and Detroit Red Wings.
After retiring from playing, Millen transitioned to broadcasting. He began by covering the Ottawa Senators during their inaugural season in 1992-93. His broadcasting career includes roles as a colour commentator for CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada and the NHL on Sportsnet. Over his broadcasting career, Millen had covered three Olympic Games, two World Cups of Hockey, 12 Stanley Cup Finals, and 12 NHL All-Star Games.
A longtime resident of Bridgenorth, Millen is well known in the Peterborough Community. From suiting up for the Petes, to his time teaching at Fleming College, he will always be remembered fondly by his neighbours, friends, students, and colleagues.
The Peterborough Petes offer our deepest condolences to Greg’s wife Ann and their four children during this very difficult time.
