Petes Host Rival Generals for the Final Time this Season
It was a 2-1 finish for the Peterborough Petes last week as they increased their lead on the North Bay Battalion to three points in the hunt for home ice advantage for the 2026 OHL playoffs. It all started on Thursday night at home when Peterborough outlasted the Ottawa 67’s to win a goalie battle by a score of 1-0. Easton Rye picked up his third shutout of the season, while Brennan Faulkner scored the lone goal in overtime. Peterborough then traveled to St. Catharine’s on Friday night, where Faulkner’s two shorthanded goals on the same penalty kill proved to be the difference in a 4-1 win over the Niagara IceDogs. Peterborough then fell to Ottawa in the Nation’s Capital on Sunday by a score of 6-3.
Tonight, the biggest rivalry in junior hockey returns as the Petes host the Oshawa Generals for the final time this season at the PMC. With a win tonight, the Petes can clinch the season series with Oshawa, as they currently hold a 4-2-0-0 lead with two games remaining. Tonight’s game is presented by Monaghan Lumber, in support of Big Brother’s Big Sister’s Peterborough. There will be fundraising opportunities for Big Brother’s Big Sister’s Peterborough in the concourse throughout the game.
Yanis Lutz will be one to watch for the Petes tonight, especially when it comes to the power play. Lutz is coming off of a two goal performance on Sunday in Ottawa, with both goals coming on the man advantage. Since returning from suspension, Lutz has three power play goals in four games. Brennan Faulkner has also been on fire as of late for Peterborough. Faulkner has 13 points in his last 10 games, including a 3 point, first star effort on Friday night against Niagara.
Peterborough native Lucas Moore will look to be the difference for Oshawa tonight. The OA defenceman had a career game the last time these two teams met, putting up five points in a 8-4 home win for the Generals. Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Owen Griffin comes into tonight’s game on a nine game point streak. Over those nine games, he’s put up 13 points and currently leads Oshawa with 61 points in 61 games.
