OHL Friday Night Faceoff: Peterborough at Kingston
The 2026-27 OHL season is finally here, and with it comes the return of Friday Night Faceoff for its second season! In partnership with FloHockey, YourTV, Rogers tv and Eastlink Community TV, all 20 OHL clubs will be featured at least twice on the initial schedule, with games available live and free across FloHockey’s Youtube channel.
The OHL Friday Night Faceoff spotlight shifts to Slush Puppie Place this week, where the Kingston Frontenacs welcome the Peterborough Petes for an East Division rivalry matchup and one of eight games across the league on Friday night. Fans can watch the action live and free on FloHockey’s YouTube channel, with puck drop set for 7:05 p.m.
Friday’s matchup has all the makings of a high-scoring affair. Kingston and Peterborough rank third and fifth in the OHL in goals scored, respectively, but have also allowed their fair share at the other end, sitting 20th and 19th in goals against. With plenty of offence on both sides, the East Division rivals could be in for a busy night around the crease.
Peterborough enters Friday looking to build some momentum after earning its first win of the season on Thursday. The Petes went 1-2 over their three-game slate and sit at 1-4-0-0 through their opening five contests.
The return of Adam Novotný provided an immediate boost to the Peterborough lineup. The Vancouver Canucks first-rounder made his season debut with a four-point performance, scoring twice and adding two assists, before finishing the weekend with six points. Off-season addition Cooper Dennis has also made an early impact with six points, including a team-leading five assists.
The Petes will look to recapture some of the momentum that helped fuel one of the OHL’s biggest turnarounds a season ago as they head into their first Friday Night Faceoff appearance of 2026-27.
Kingston, meanwhile, will be looking to get back in the win column after a difficult three-game weekend. The Frontenacs opened the season with consecutive victories before dropping their next three contests.
Nolan Snyder has helped lead the offence with three goals and six points through the early stages of the season, while Landon Wright has matched him with six points of his own, recording two goals and four assists.
In the crease, rookie Royden Smith has quickly taken on a significant role. The first-year netminder has started four of Kingston’s first five games after turning heads with a 44-save performance in his OHL debut.
Friday will also bring a different look to Slush Puppie Place as the Frontenacs celebrate Y2K Night. Kingston will unveil its new Court Frontenac alternate jersey as part of the throwback-themed night.
Players to Watch:
Peterborough Petes:
- Adam Novotný (LW) – After returning from Vancouver Canucks training camp, Novotný wasted little time making his presence felt, recording two goals and two assists on Thursday before finishing the weekend with six points. His return is a massive boost for a Petes team looking to find its footing early in the season, adding a proven offensive threat back into the lineup.
- Cooper Dennis (RW) – An offseason addition from the Brantford Bulldogs, Dennis is coming off an impressive rookie campaign that saw him record 74 points in 68 games to finish second in team scoring while leading the OHL with a plus-48 rating. Dennis has carried that production into his first season with the Petes, recording six points through his first six games, including a team-leading five assists.
Kingston Frontenacs:
- Nolan Snyder (RW) – After a strong rookie season that saw him record 16 goals and 33 points in 68 games, Snyder has picked up right where he left off. The sophomore forward has been one of Kingston’s early offensive leaders, sitting tied for the team lead with six points.
- Royden Smith (G) – Smith has quickly earned a significant role in Kingston’s crease during his first few weeks in the OHL. The rookie netminder turned heads with a 44-save performance in his league debut and has continued to see plenty of action, making 101 saves through his first four appearances. Whether he gets the start Friday night or not, Smith has already established himself as a young goaltender to watch in Kingston this season.
