Melee Scores Twice as Petes Fall in Sudbury
Coming off of a heartbreaking loss at the hands of the North Bay Battalion the night before, the Peterborough Petes were right back at it, this time in Sudbury to take on the Wolves. The Petes were still looking for their first win of the season heading into the game, with Liam Sztuska between the pipes for the first time this year.
It was a penalty filled first 20, with 24 penalty minutes being handed out between both teams. Late in the period, the Petes found themselves killing off a penalty after a slashing call to Blake Gowan. On the kill, Byadon McCallum intercepted a pass and broke out into the offensive zone. McCallum fed a beautiful pass to Jonathan Melee, who scored his first of the season to make it 1-0. The lead wouldn’t last long. The Wolves would fight back, tying the game at 1-1 before the break.
The Wolves would go one to score three consecutive goals, before Jonathan Melee scored once again to cut the deficit to 4-2 with 8:52 remaining in the third. Adam Levac picked up an assist on the goal for his first career OHL point in his second game. Just when it looked like the Petes had some momentum, they would run into penalty trouble once again. Sudbury added one more on a late five on three to take the game 5-2.
Jonathan Melee scored both goals for the Petes, while Braydon McCallum, Adam Levac (first OHL point), and Grayden Strohack each had an assist. Liam Sztuska made his season debut in net, stopping 27/32 in the loss.
