On Sunday, February 11, the Peterborough Petes were in Brantford to wrap up another three game week with a matinee matchup against the Brantford Bulldogs. The Petes have had the Bulldogs number this year, and were looking to improve their season record to 4-1 against Brantford with a win on Sunday. Liam Sztuska was back in net on Sunday for the Petes, looking for his fourth win of the season against the Bulldogs.
It was the Liam Sztuska show in the first 20. Sztuska turned aside 21/23 shots in the period, surrendering only two goals at the hands of Florian Xhekaj and Zakary Lavoie. Sztuska made a number of massive saves in the period to keep the deficit to two, highlighted by two shorthanded breakaway stops. After one, Brantford led Peterborough by a score of 2-0.
The Petes would get on the board in the second. After jumping out of the penalty box, Jonathan Melee broke out on a pass from Tommy Purdeller. Melee beat David Egorov on a backhand to get the Petes within one. That would be the closest that they would get, as Brantford would storm ahead and add six goals in the period to take an 8-1 lead into the third. They would add three more in the final frame and win the game by a score of 11-1.
The Petes are back in action on Thursday, February 15, when they host the Guelph Storm for Sitcom Night presented by Fleming College. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the PMC. Fans can get tickets by clicking here, or by visiting the Grant Thornton Box Office. The game will also be broadcasted on YourTV Peterborough and Freq 90.5.
