Matejicek, Partridge Both Score Twice as Petes Beat Storm at Home
On Sunday, December 8, the Peterborough Petes hosted the Guelph Storm for a matinee matchup at the PMC. The game was presented by Lansdowne Place, in support of Autism Ontario. The Petes were in black for the game, looking to make it three wins in a row while wearing their alternate jerseys. It was a milestone game for Petes forward Quinton Pagé, who skated in his 150th OHL game. Easton Rye was back in net for the Petes, looking for his third win in a row.
It was not the start that the Petes were looking for after finding themselves on the wrong end of a five on three power play early in the game. On said power play, Philadelphia Flyers first round pick Jett Luchanko opened the scoring to make it 1-0 Guelph. After the tough start, the Petes would come back, tying the game on a one-timer by Martin Matejicek. Matejicek’s goal was his first of the season, with Liam Ladds and Caden Taylor picking up the assists. The tie only lasted for seven seconds, as Lev Katzin found himself all alone off of the faceoff, beating Rye to give Guelph a 2-1 lead heading into the break.
The second period was all Peterborough. A hard fought middle frame would see Brody Partridge score his second and third goals of the season just three minutes apart. The two goals would see Peterborough go out in front heading into the final frame.
After Luchanko tied the game 1:39 into the third, it was Matejicek again, scoring on a feed from Gavin Bryant to give the Petes the lead for the final time. Jonathan Melee added an empty netter late, as the Petes won the game by a score of 5-3, winning their third game in their last four.
Martin Matejicek and Brody Partridge led the way for the Petes, scoring two goals each, while Francis Parish picked up two assists. Jonathan Melee scored the empty net goal, as Liam Ladds, Caden Taylor, Adam Levac, and Gavin Bryant all picked up an assist. Easton Rye stopped 36/39 for his third straight win and fourth win of the season.
