GAME RECAP: Bowen Stops 43/45 as Generals Beat Petes in Overtime
It was rivalry night at the PMC on Thursday, October 17 as the Peterborough Petes hosted the Oshawa Generals for the first time this season. The Petes were still on the hunt for win number one heading into the game, and would be looking to spark their offence by taking advantage of a Generals team that sat 18th in the OHL in goals allowed. The Generals have also struggled this season, dropping five of their first eight. Oshawa would be relying on NHL first round picks Beckett Sennecke, Colby Barlow, and Ben Danford to get them the win on Thursday.
The Petes would strike first just 1:47 into the game when Caden Taylor snuck a shot past reigning Jim Rutherford Trophy winner Jacob Oster to give the Petes a 1-0 lead. That lead would hold up until late in the third period, with Zach Bowen standing on his head to keep the Petes in front. With 5:14 left in the game, Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Luca Marrelli fired a shot through traffic and past Bowen to tie it at 1-1. The game would go to overtime, where Marrelli set up Lauri Sinivuori to win the game for Oshawa by a score of 2-1.
Zach Bowen led the way for the Petes, stopping 43/45 in the loss. Caden Taylor scored his third goal of the season, while Matthew Jenken picked up his first point as a Pete with an assist on the goal.
