GAME PREVIEW: The Biggest Rivalry in Junior Hockey Kicks off for Another Season
It was a wild ride for Petes fans last week as Peterborough had a home and home with the Kingston Frontenacs to kick start their Thanksgiving Weekend. Thursday night saw Peterborough take down the Frontenacs 5-2, fueled by first OHL goals from Adam Novotný and Kaden McGregor. Looking to make it a two game sweep, the Petes traveled to Kingston on Friday night with their spirits high. Unfortunately, the Frontenacs came out ready for revenge, winning the game by a score of 9-1 on home ice.
Putting last week behind them, the Petes reignite the biggest rivalry in junior hockey as they host the Oshawa Generals for the first time this season. The game is the first meeting of two between Peterborough and Oshawa this weekend as a part of the OHL’s Rivalry Week. After hosting the Ottawa 67’s on Saturday, Peterborough will travel to Oshawa for a Sunday night matchup.
Going into tonight’s game, Peterborough will be looking to 2026 NHL draft prospect Adam Novotný to continue his hot streak tonight against the Generals. After going pointless in his first three games, the Czech forward has five points (2G, 3A) in his last five games. Peterborough native Easton Rye will also look to keep his big start to the season going, as he is expected to start tonight’s game between the pipes. Through six starts this season, Rye has tallied three wins, posting a 2.47 GAA and a .922 SV%.
The Generals come into the game having won four of their first ten games, including a massive OT win in Windsor on Monday. Oshawa has been better as of late, starting the season 1-5, before winning three of their last four. They’re led by Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Owen Griffin, who leads Oshawa in scoring with 12 points in eight games.
Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the Peterborough Memorial Centre. Very limited tickets are still available by clicking here, calling (705) 743-3561, or by visiting the Grant Thornton Box Office during business hours. The game will also be broadcasted live on YourTV Peterborough, Freq 90.5., and Flo Hockey.
