The Petes travel to St. Catharines for the first time this season to bring in the new year against the Niagara IceDogs. It’s the third meeting between the two teams this season, with each team taking one win in extra time. Niagara’s win against Peterborough was only their fourth in the last five years, with the Petes sporting a 16-1-2-1 record against the IceDogs over that period. This is the first of four road games for Peterborough this week, as they head North for a road trip beginning on Thursday night in North Bay.
Peterborough is still on the hunt for their second road win of the season, with six of their seven wins coming at home. The Petes have done a great job in shutting down Niagara’s elite offence, having given up only four regulation goals in two games. Peterborough will look to former IceDogs captain Gavin Bryant to be the difference maker tonight. In Bryant’s only other game against the IceDogs this season, he scored twice and added an assist en route to a 4-3 overtime win.
The IceDogs currently sit second in the Eastern Conference, only two points behind the first place Barrie Colts. Their high-flying offence, led by Ryan Roobroeck (50P) and Winnipeg Jets prospect Kevin He (48P), currently sits third in the OHL with 149 goals for. They have enjoyed a lot of success as of late, skating to a 7-2-1-0 record in their last 10 games.
Fans can catch tonight’s game on YourTV Peterborough, CHL TV, and Freq 90.5.
