GAME PREVIEW: Petes Look to Stay Undefeated Against IceDogs this Season
The Peterborough Petes are coming off of a heart breaker last night in Brantford which saw the first place Bulldogs take the game by a score of 4-3. The Petes held a 2-0 lead halfway through the second period, before two Brantford goals tied it heading into the third. Peterborough would once again take the lead in the third period, before the Bulldogs tied it on the power play, later scoring in the final two minutes to secure a 4-3 win. The Petes PK killed off four Brantford power plays, but the number one PP in the league managed to capitalize twice on six tries, proving to be the difference. Adam Novotný and newly acquired Kieron Walton are beginning to find some chemistry on the first line, having combined for six points in the game.
Tonight, the Petes host the Niagara IceDogs, a team that they have played very well over the recent years. In the past five seasons, the Petes hold a 15-2-2-1 record against the IceDogs, having not lost in regulation at home. This season, the Petes have won both matchups against Niagara, out scoring them 11-5 in those games. Peterborough is 7-2-1-0 in their last 10 games, and will be looking to get back on track with a win at home after last night’s loss.
All eyes will be on the line of Kieron Walton, Adam Levac, and Adam Novotný tonight. After the three combined for seven points last night in Brantford, the guys are looking like they are on their way to being one of the most dangerous lines in the OHL. New additions Garrett Frazer and Brett Hammond have also been big contributors since being acquired from the Erie Otters. Both players have added a much needed physical component to Peterborough’s game, making other players very aware when they are on the ice.
When it comes to the IceDogs, their offence runs mainly through two players. Vancouver Canucks prospect Riley Patterson has been their main contributor this season, sitting tied for fourth in the league in points with 52. Draft eligible forward Ryan Roobroeck has also been great for Niagara, putting up 47 points in 40 games. On the back end, two newly acquired players will anchor the blueline for the IceDogs. San Jose Sharks prospect Haoxi Wang and import OA Jakub Chromiak will look to be difference makers and halt the Petes attack.
Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the Peterborough Memorial Centre. Tickets for the game are sold-out, but the game will be broadcast live on YourTV Peterborough, Freq 90.5., and Flo Hockey.
