GAME PREVIEW: Petes Host Steelheads Looking to Stay Perfect in Season Series
On Saturday, November 15, the Peterborough Petes took on the Barrie Colts for the first time this season. The Petes were one of the hottest teams in the OHL heading into the game, having won five straight games. Peterborough played hard in Barrie, but would ultimately fall to the Colts and OHL Goaltender of the Week, Ben Hrebik, who stopped 43/44 in the game. After Adam Levac opened the scoring, the Colts scored two straight, sealing the 3-1 win with a late empty net goal. Easton Rye, who is still tied for the league lead in wins with 11, stopped 40 shots in the loss.
Tonight at the PMC, the Petes host Zach Bowen and the Brampton Steelheads. This will be the third meeting between the two teams this season, with the Petes winning the first two. It’s Stranger Things night at the Memorial Centre, with tons of activations and content centered around Netflix’s hit show. The Peterborough Petes are one of the OHL’s top teams at home this season, rocking an 8-2-0-1 record at the PMC. In fact, they haven’t lost at home in the month of November, winning four straight at the Memorial Centre heading into tonight’s game. Draft eligible forwards Colin Fitzgerald and Adam Levac have both been strong as of late, with Fitzgerald putting up four points in his last four games and Levac setting a new career high in goals with 7 so far this season. Levac also leads the team in +/- this campaign with a +7.
Former Petes goaltender Zach Bowen leads the Steelheads into Peterborough on Thursday night. Bowen, who was acquired by the Steelheads from the Petes in August, has played in all but three of Brampton’s games this season, posting an 8-8-1 record. Vancouver Canucks prospect Gabriel Chiarot and third year forward Kieran Witkowski both lead the offensive charge for the Steelheads with 16 points each. Seattle Kraken prospect Jakub Fibigr has also been a force from the backend, putting up 15 points in 18 games.
