GAME PREVIEW: Petes Host Frontenacs Looking for Third Win This Week
The Peterborough Petes marched into Kingston last night determined to change their luck in the Limestone City. Having lost their last six matchups at Slush Puppie Place, the Petes entered the game with a ton of confidence, winning six of their last seven games. After Peterborough opened the scoring, the Frontenacs scored twice to take a 2-1 lead into the third period. Adam Novotný tied the game early in the third, leading to Masen Johnston standing on his head to send the game to overtime. In OT, Novotný once again was the hero, scoring just 23 seconds into the extra frame to give the Petes that elusive win in Kingston, taking the game by a score of 3-2.
Moving onto tonight’s game, it’s the Frontenacs who head down the 401 and across to the PMC, as the two teams complete a home and home. Peterborough will be looking for their third straight win after last night’s OT victory and a 7-1 win over the Brampton Steelheads on Thursday. The Petes continue to be one of the OHL’s hottest teams at home, sporting a 9-2-0-1 record at the PMC this season. The stands will be packed at the Memorial Centre, as it’s Kawartha Coyotes Takeover Night, so make sure to be loud to help the boys in maroon and white grab another win at home.
Fresh off a three point performance, including netting the game tying and OT winning goal, Adam Novotny will be the player to watch tonight for Peterborough. Novotny currently sits first on the Petes in goals (14) and points (25) in 23 games played. This is the Czech forwards last game before heading to the CHL USA Prospects Challenge in Alberta, taking place early next week. OHL wins leader Easton Rye is expected to be between the pipes for the Petes tonight. Rye has been on fire as of late, having won six of his last seven starts.
Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Tyler Hopkins leads the Frontenacs into Peterborough tonight. Hopkins scored Kingston’s only two goals in last night’s game, hitting double digits with 10 so far this season. Fans should also keep an eye on Vancouver Canucks prospects Kieren Dervin (19 P) and Calgary Flames second round pick Jacob Battaglia (16 P), who are both always a threat at the PMC. Frontenacs first-year goaltender Matthew Minchak has been stellar this season and currently sits first in the OHL in save percentage (.934) and third in GAA (1.99).

The game will also be broadcasted live on YourTV Peterborough, Freq 90.5., and Flo Hockey.
