GAME PREVIEW: Petes Host Defending Memorial Cup Champion Knights
What was looking to be a promising northern road trip ended in disappointment for the Peterborough Petes last week. Peterborough got a point in North Bay on Thursday night, before going into Sault Ste. Marie and beating the Greyhounds in overtime for the first time since 2022. After grabbing 3/4 points to start their northern swing, the Petes headed to Sudbury for one final stop before heading home. Unfortunately, Sunday would not be their day, as they fell 8-2 to the Wolves during their third away game in 3.5 days.
Moving on to tonight, the Petes get ready to host the defending Memorial Cup Champion London Knights for the first time this season. It’s Peterborough’s annual Halloween game at the PMC, presented by Pete 99.7. Roger’s costume contest is back for another year, and fans are encouraged to dress up in their costumes for a night of fun!
Looking to bounce back after Sunday’s loss, the Petes find themselves up against one of the OHL’s hottest teams. Peterborough has had a lot of success at home this season, carrying a 4-1-0-1 record at the PMC. The Petes will be without 2025 first overall pick Kaden McGregor, who is in Truro, NS, with Canada White as they prepare for the U17 World Challenge. Adam Novotny (13P) and Matthew Soto (14P) will look to continue to carry the Petes offence tonight as they take on a strong London team.
The Knights come into tonight’s game on a heater. After losing their first four games of the season, they have rebounded to win seven of their last eight, putting them in the CHL Top 10 this week. London’s offence runs through NHL first round pick and Tampa Bay Lightning prospect, Sam O’Reilly, who leads the team in scoring this season with 12 points in 10 games. The Knights will also have another boost as Braidy Wassilyn, the fourth overall pick in the 2024 OHL draft, is expected to make his Knights debut in tonight’s game, after being acquired from the Niagara IceDogs earlier this week.
Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the Peterborough Memorial Centre. Limited tickets are still available by clicking here, calling (705) 743-3561, or by visiting the Grant Thornton Box Office during business hours. The game will also be broadcasted live on YourTV Peterborough, Freq 90.5., and Flo Hockey.
