GAME PREVIEW: Petes Host Battalion for Indigenous Heritage Night
There are a number of things to look forward to tonight as the Petes host the North Bay Battalion for Indigenous Heritage Night presented by Crowe’s Gas. This includes performances by the Smoke Trail Drum and Dance Group from Alderville First Nation. The group will be performing in the lobby before the game and on the ice in the first intermission. There will also be a ceremonial puck drop before the game featuring representatives from Crowe’s Gas, Alderville First Nation, Curve Lake First Nation, and Hiawatha First Nation. There will also be storytelling on the videoboard throughout the game, including Sky Woman and Turtle Island.
The Petes will once again be using a logo designed by Kory Parkin, an Indigenous Painter & Digital Creator from Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, Ontario, Canada. The logo highlights the traditional name of Peterborough, Nogojiwanong, meaning “place at the foot of the rapids”
“Since the land today is preoccupied by many Indigenous groups I thought it would best represent those who came before by changing Peterborough to the name it went by before,” noted Parkin. “Known as a great fishing spot and the word meaning, place at the end of the rapids, that’s why I included the canoe and the water behind to give a rapid look to the water.”

The Petes are coming off of a massive week which saw them take down the first place team in both the Eastern and Western Conference. It all started on Thursday night when Peterborough put up seven goals against the OHL’s goals against leading Ottawa 67’s en route to a 7-3 win. After a tough loss in Oshawa on Friday night, the Petes bounced back hard with a huge shootout win over the Kitchener Rangers on Monday afternoon. Adam Novotny was the difference in Monday’s game against Kitchener, scoring and adding an assist in the 3-2 SO win. Novotny has seven points in his last three games and will look to stay hot against a surging Battalion team.
North Bay comes into tonight’s game on a three game win streak, keeping them four points behind the Petes for fourth in the Eastern Conference. Their recent success has been led by captain and Anaheim Ducks prospect Ethan Procyszyn, who has been on fire with 10 points in his last four games. This includes a massive five point performance against the Niagara IceDogs last Sunday. The Battalion goaltending has also been very strong this season, with Jack Lisson sitting fourth in the OHL in both GAA (2.38) and SV% (.917).
Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the Peterborough Memorial Centre. Tickets for the game are sold-out, but the game will be broadcast live on YourTV Peterborough, Freq 90.5., and Flo Hockey.
