The Peterborough Petes were in Saginaw, MI, on Thursday, November 7, as they began a three-game road trip against the Saginaw Spirit. Coming off of a heartbreaking 4-3 shootout loss to the rival Oshawa Generals on Tuesday, the Maroon and White were still on the hunt for their first win of the season. Petes forward Aiden Young was back in Saginaw for the first time since being acquired by the Petes in the Owen Beck trade in January. He would start the game at centre against his former team.
The home team would get on the board first as three minutes into the game, former Pete James Guo found the back of the net for his first of the season. After giving up an early goal, the Petes would settle down and begin to fight back. Just under 12 minutes into the period, Francis Parish forced a turnover and broke out on a two on one. He chose to shoot, beating Spirit goaltender Kaleb Papineau and scoring his second goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1.
The game would stay tied at one until late in the third period. With 2:25 remaining in the game, Brody Partridge won a clean faceoff straight to Carson Cameron. Cameron beat Papineau to give Peterborough the late lead. Saginaw pulled their goalie late, desperate to find a tying goal. The Petes fought off multiple Spirit chances in the final two minutes, highlighted by a Ryder McIntyre block to take away an open shot. As the buzzer went, the Petes found themselves on the winning end for the first time this season, beating the Spirit by a score of 2-1.
Zach Bowen led the way for the Petes, stopping 31/32 for his first win of the season. Francis Parish and Carson Cameron both scored, while Matthew Jenken, Thanasi Marentette (first OHL point), and Brody Partridge all picked up an assist.
