After a tough loss in their home opener last night at the hands of the Kingston Frontenacs, the Peterborough Petes were right back in action on the road against the North Bay Battalion. The Petes would be looking to spoil the Battalion’s home opener with a win on Friday night. Thanasi Marentette slotted into the lineup for the Petes, making his OHL debut in the game.
It was a back-and-forth game to start, with the Petes showing no signs of bus legs early. After a head check by Jacob Therrien resulted in a five minute major and a game misconduct for the Battalion, the Petes looked to take advantage halfway through the frame. Peterborough never looked comfortable with the extra attacker, resulting in a shorthanded goal for North Bay to take the lead. The Battalion added one more goal in the final minute of the period to take a 2-0 lead into the break.
The second period would prove to be the Zach Bowen show. Bowen came up big time after time, stopping all 22 North Bay shots in the period. Despite putting 15 shots of their own on North Bay goalie Mike McIvor, Peterborough would not be able to find the back of the net in the period. After 40, the score would stay 2-0 in favour of North Bay.
The Battalion would go on to score two more goals in the third (including one in the final minute) to take the game by a score of 4-0. Despite the two goal third, Zach Bowen continued to have a strong game, stopping 45/49 in the loss.
The Petes are back in action for Pride Night on Thursday, October 3, when they host the North Bay Battalion. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the PMC. Fans can get tickets by clicking here. The game will also be broadcasted on YourTV Peterborough and Freq 90.5.
