Bowen Stops 36/39 as Generals Beat Petes in Shootout
On Tuesday, November 5, the Peterborough Petes hosted the rival Oshawa Generals at the Peterborough Memorial Centre for their annual Remembrance Day Game presented by HW Transportation Group in support of Wounded Warriors Canada. The Petes were still on the hunt for their first win of the season, despite picking up two points in their last four games after taking Brantford and first place Niagara to a shootout. Newly acquired OA forward Gavin Bryant made his debut in the game, with Braydon McCallum also returning from injury.
Before the game, the Petes held a Remembrance Day ceremony to reflect, remember and honour those who fought and gave their lives to serve our country. The ceremony was capped off by the Peterborough Salvation Army Band performing the National Anthem of Canada.
After a back and forth first few minutes, it would be the Petes who would get on the board first. In his first game back from injury, Braydon McCallum made a beautiful pass to Quinton Pagé who scored to make it 1-0. Five minutes later, Beckett Sennecke evened the score, beating Zach Bowen on a quick shot down low. After one, the game would be all square at 1-1.
Peterborough would take over in the second, scoring twice on goals by Ryder McIntyre and Adam Levac. Outshooting Oshawa 15-8 in the period, the Petes took their 3-1 lead into the final frame.
Oshawa came out firing in the third, scoring just 13 seconds into the period to cut the defecit to one. Halfway through the period, with Zach Bowen standing on his head, Matthew Buckley would find himself alone, scoring to tie the game at 3-3. The game would stay that way after 65 minutes, leading to a shootout. Unfortunately for Peterborough, Oshawa would take the shootout 2-1, winning the game 4-3.
Zach Bowen led the way for the Petes, stopping 36/39 in the game. Quinton Pagé, Ryder McIntyre, and Adam Levac each had a goal, while Braydon McCallum, Jonathan Melee, Carson Cameron, Grayden Strohack, and Liam Ladds all picked up an assist. Newly acquired OA forward Gavin Bryant made his Petes debut in the game.
