Beck Hat Trick Fuels Comeback Overtime Win in Oshawa
After two back-to-back big wins up north against the North Bay Battalion and Sudbury Wolves, the Peterborough Petes traveled to Oshawa for a Sunday matinee with the rival Oshawa Generals. The Petes would be looking to even the season series against the Generals, having dropped the last two contests in overtime. The Generals had some added firepower since the last time the two teams met, with newly acquired former Pete Connor Lockhart and Colorado Avalanche first round pick Calum Ritchie both in the lineup.
It was a nightmare first period for the Petes. Just over a minute into the game, Beckett Sennecke had already found the back of the net twice for Oshawa, putting Peterborough in a bad spot early. Things just kept going downhill from there. The Generals scored three more times before the Petes were saved by the buzzer signaling the end of the first 20. After one, Oshawa was in front by a score of 5-0.
The Petes took their time during the intermission and reset, coming out flying in the middle frame. At the 3:40 mark, Owen Beck finally found the back of the net for the Maroon and White. The goal sent a spark to the Petes players, who continued to pressure the Generals, ready to make it a game. Three minutes later, Beck scored again on the powerplay, and just like that the Petes were back in it. Peterborough wouldn’t stop there. With just under three minutes left in the period, Sam Mayer sent a beautiful pass to Jax Dubois who tapped it by Jacob Oster to make it a two goal game. The Petes would hold the Generals to only four shots in the period, one less than the five goals they scored in the first. After a dominant middle 20 by Peterborough, Oshawa would hold on to a 5-3 lead heading into the final frame.
Once again, the third period would be all Petes. On a power play at the 6:56 mark, Owen Beck fired home a rebound to complete the hat trick and make it a one goal game. The goal was Beck’s eighth goal against the Generals this season.
OWEN. BECK! 💪

Six minutes after that, Sam Mayer walked in and tee’d up a slapshot, beating Oster on the glove side to tie the game and complete the five-goal comeback. The Petes would finish the game on a five minute power play, but despite multiple loose pucks inches away from going in, they wouldn’t be able to capitalize. Once again, the Maroon and White were off to overtime.
In the OT period, Owen Beck found Donovan McCoy on a two on one. Instead of shooting, McCoy wrapped it around the net to get Oster out of position before scoring his second OT winner in three games. Just like that, the Petes won their fourth straight, sweeping their road trip and moving into second place in the OHL.
