On Sunday, January 5, the Peterborough Petes were in Sudbury to wrap up their northern road trip with a matinee matchup against the Sudbury Wolves. Playing their fifth game in eight days, Peterborough was looking to turn the page on a tough week and snap their five game losing streak. The Wolves came into the game on a three game winning streak, having won seven of their last 10. Sudbury has not been kind to the Petes in recent history, with Peterborough having only one regular season win at the Sudbury Community Arena in the last five years. Zach Bowen was back between the pipes for the Petes, looking for his third win of the season.
After a relatively quiet first period in which both teams skated to a scoreless 20, the game really took off in the middle frame. It all started one minute in, on a Peterborough powerplay, with Nico Addy ripping a shot past Nate Krawchuk to make it 1-0. Not done there, just 29 seconds later Addy fired another shot past Krawchuk, extending the Petes lead to two. Addy’s goals were his second and third of the season, with former Wolf Caden Taylor picking up an assist on the second goal. Two minutes later, Carson Cameron got in on the action, scoring his seventh of the season to make it 3-0.
The Cameron goal would lead to a goaltending change, with Finn Marshall taking over from Krawchuk. The change seemed to spark the Wolves, who got on the board just 17 seconds later on a goal by Kocha Delic. After the goal, Sudbury would run into penalty trouble. Peterborough would take advantage, with Jonathan Melee and Quinton Pagé both adding a powerplay marker to give the Petes a 5-1 lead heading into the final frame.
Zach Bowen would shut the door in the final 20 minutes, stopping all 12 Sudbury shots in the period and securing the Petes 5-1 win.
Nico Addy led the way for the Petes, scoring his second and third goals of the season. Quinton Pagé scored and added an assist, while Gavin Bryant, Caden Taylor, and Colin Fitzgerald all had two assists. Jonathan Melee and Carson Cameron scored, with Grayden Strohack, Ryder McIntyre, and Braydon McCallum all picking up an assist in the game. Zach Bowen stopped 28/29, earning his third win of the season.
