On\u00a0Saturday, September 26 at 6:00 P.M.,<\/b> hockey will return to downtown Erie at the Erie Insurance Arena for Erie Otters’ Home Opener 2026. Expectations will be high for fans and players alike in the homecoming affair; Erie has been successful in their Erie Insurance Arena regular season debuts of late, winning four of their last seven home openers.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The home opener will represent the Otters’ second game of the season against one of their biggest division rivals, the reigning Memorial Cup champion Kitchener Rangers. This will mark the sixth time the Otters have hosted Kitchener for their home opener (2002-03, 2004-05, 2008-09, 2017-18, 2025-26) with both championship banner raisings at the Erie Insurance Arena taking place against this opponent. It is also the second-straight season the Otters have hosted the Rangers for their home opener. This will be the 14th time in team-history that Erie’s home opener has been in September.<\/div>\n

Home Opener 2026 marks the first time fans will be able to see the 2026-27 Erie Otters in-person at the Erie Insurance Arena as the club celebrates its 30th season in the OHL. Plenty of excitement is sure to surround the night and a few surprises are in-store for fans as well.<\/div>\n

The 2026 Home Opener is presented by Rebich Investments. All fans will receive a\u00a0Home Opener Rally Towel\u00a0<\/strong>(pres. by Rebich Investments) upon entry, the perfect way to kick-off the home schedule!<\/div>\n
Further information regarding the home opener, including promotions, giveaways, activations, and the acclaimed Fan Fest, will be unveiled closer to the start of the 2026-27 season.<\/div>\n

Erie will open the new season in Guelph for a Midwest Division clash on Friday, September 18 as they visit the site of the 2027 Memorial Cup. The complete 68 game 2026-27 season schedule will be announced Tuesday, June 16 on Otters\u2019 social media, OttersHockey.com, and on the Ontario Hockey League website.<\/div>\n

Erie, Pennsylvania –\u00a0<\/b>Priority Selection Draft week would begin Monday night, as the Erie Otters would participate in the 2026 Ontario Hockey League Under-18 Priority Selection Draft for the 10th time.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The fist OHL-only Draft of the year, the Under 18 Priority Selection arrives days before the OHL Priority Selection which will begin Friday in Kingston. Much like the name implies, the U18 Draft \u2013 which started in 2017 \u2013 gives teams the opportunity to select any draft-eligible player under the age of 18 \u2013 giving players a second-chance at catching scouts\u2019 eyes. While the U18 Draft doesn’t share the same pomp, circumstance, or acclaim that the standard Priority Selection Draft receives – as team’s select players overlooked initially in the Draft process – it is the perfect time to find diamond-in-the-rough, late developing, or under the radar prospects.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The 10th-annual U18 draft would see the Otters come in with the opportunity to select three players from the three rounds – including the #2 overall pick. With a \u2018Linear Draft\u2019 being executed – ensuring Erie and all OHL member teams the same draft order in each round. Unlike the Priority Selection, there were no compensatory or traded picks. The 2026 U18 Priority Selection picks were as followed for Erie:<\/div>\n

  1. Round 1, #2 pick<\/b><\/li>\n
  2. Round 2, #22 pick<\/b><\/li>\n
  3. Round 3, #42 pick<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
    In the 2025-26 season, one of Erie’s two selections dressed in a game for the Otters, defenseman\u00a0David Greene\u00a0<\/strong>(#31 overall).<\/div>\n

    Round 1, 2nd Overall – Zack Forwell<\/b><\/h2>\n
    \"\"<\/div>\n
    The Erie Otters would utilize their #2nd overall pick on Monday night to welcome forward Zack Forwell<\/strong>. <\/b>Hailing from Elmira, ON, Forwell spent the majority of last season with the Waterloo Wolves U18 AAA program also appearing in five games with the Elmira Sugar Kings of the GOHL.<\/div>\n

    This past season, the 5’9, 165 lbs. forward would put together a fantastic season, putting up 126 points (51G+75A) over 79 games. Forwell was also +80, won over 900 faceoffs and fired 328 shots on net. This forward adds a bit of instant offense to the Otters lineup, while also being capable in the faceoff dot and all three zones.<\/div>\n

    Erie director of hockey operations\u00a0Scott Grieve\u00a0<\/b>spoke highly of the team’s first pick in the U18 draft.<\/div>\n

    “Zack is a player we have admired throughout the season,” Grieve\u00a0<\/strong>said. “Zack had an extremely productive year, leading his team to the Telus Cup. In addition, Zack constantly drags teammates into the fight, makes opponents uncomfortable and plays on the edge physically. In our discussions with Zach prior to the draft, it is clear that he is willing to do whatever it takes to help his team win. We are excited about Zack’s development curve and to welcome him to the organization.”<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
    The slick forward will have a chance to earn his spot in Training Camp come the fall.<\/div>\n

    Round 2, 22nd Overall – Liam Karbowski<\/b><\/h2>\n

    \"\"<\/p>\n

    With their second pick in the 2026 U18 Draft, the Otters selected goaltender\u00a0Liam Karbowski<\/strong>. This netminder comes to the Otters after spending last season with the Toronto Nationals U18AAA program.<\/p>\n

    Karbowski stands 6’3 170lbs and will provide size and stability in the net for the Otters. With this pick the Otters will have a selection in the third round.<\/div>\n
    Otters Goaltending Consultant\u00a0Adrian Volpe\u00a0<\/strong>spoke on the addition of Karbowski and what he brings to the table in Erie.<\/div>\n
    “Liam is a technically sound, big bodied goaltender who plays with strong awareness and positioning,”\u00a0Volpe\u00a0<\/strong>said. “He reads the game well, consistently places himself in optimal locations to make saves and uses his size effectively. Had calm controlled swagger that allows him to read plays efficiently and maintain strong confident depth management in the crease.”<\/div>\n

    Round 3, 42nd Overall – Ethan Levkov<\/b><\/h2>\n

    With their third and final pick, the Erie Otters select\u00a0Ethan Levkov\u00a0<\/strong>a forward who spent last season with the Mississauga Senators U18AAA program of the GTHL.<\/p>\n

    Levkov, a 5’9, 159 lbs forward spent most of the season with the Senators but did appear in three games with the Brantford Titans of the GOHL. Levkov is noted as a small but shifty forward who makes an impact in all three zones.<\/p>\n

    General Manager Dave Brown <\/b>spoke on what Levkov brings to the club.<\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n
    “Ethan’s speed is a key aspect of his game; it allows him to take advantage of space and win puck battles, creating offensive opportunities and gaining offensive ice time.”<\/div>\n
    Grieve\u00a0<\/strong>spoke on the addition of Levkov and what he brings to the organization.<\/div>\n

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Erie, Pennsylvania —\u00a0<\/strong>In a busy day full of trades around the OHL, the Otters have made another thrilling move geared toward a potent offense in 2026-27.<\/p>\n

    General Manager\u00a0Dave Brown\u00a0<\/strong>announced with excitement today, the team has acquired forward Liam Beamish\u00a0<\/strong>from the Sarnia Sting in exchange for Brantford’s 3rd round pick in 2028 and Erie’s 5th round selection in 2028.<\/p>\n

    Beamish, a native of Beamsville, ON, spent parts of two seasons with the Sting after he was selected by them in the 8th round, #151 overall in 2023.<\/p>\n

    In 66 games with Sarnia a season ago, Beamish collected 33 points (11G+22A).<\/p>\n

    The 5’11 forward is committed to Penn State University, becoming the second Nittany Lion commit to represent the organization following\u00a0Andrew Kuzma’s\u00a0<\/strong>time in Erie last season.<\/p>\n

    Beamish is noted as an all-around forward with strong hockey IQ and good senses in the defensive zone. He is quick to start rushes and utilizes space well.<\/p>\n

    Last season, he was strong in the faceoff dot, winning over half of his draws, an area the Otters are keen to improve on heading into next season.<\/p>\n

    Beamish\u00a0<\/strong>spoke with excitement about joining the Otters organization.<\/p>\n

    “I’m super pumped and excited to get things started in Erie,”\u00a0Beamish\u00a0<\/strong>said. “I’ve heard nothing but good things about everything there and can’t wait to get to work and be a part of this team.”<\/p>\n

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Erie, Pennsylvania —\u00a0<\/strong>The OHL has put a pause on its summer trade freeze leading up to the OHL Draft and the Otters front office has taken full advantage with a move to bolster the crease.<\/p>\n

    Otters General Manager\u00a0Dave Brown\u00a0<\/strong>announced today that the Otters have acquired goaltender\u00a0David Egorov <\/strong>from the Brantford Bulldogs in exchange for Erie’s third round pick in 2027, North Bay’s third round pick in 2027, Sarnia’s fourth round pick in 2026 and Erie’s fifth round pick in 2029.<\/p>\n

    Egorov, a 6’2 native of the Ottawa area is coming off of a fantastic season with the Bulldogs where he posted a 21-4-3-0 record over 29 games with a 2.49 goals against average and .920 save percentage. His goals against average was seventh in the league and his save percentage was second in the OHL. He also appeared in one playoff game a season ago, picking up a series clinching victory for Brantford over North Bay.<\/p>\n

    Heading into his overage season in the OHL, Egorov provides stability and experience for the Otters and has also proven to be one of the top goaltenders in the Ontario Hockey League, posting a career save percentage of over .900.<\/p>\n

    Egorov’s underlying data is incredible as he proves to be one of the more reliable netminders in the OHL. Last season, among goaltenders who appeared in five or more games he was first in saves above expected per 20 and second in save percentage on inner slot shots.<\/p>\n

    The 2006-born netminder is known for his high character off the ice as well, as he was named a finalist for the 2026 Dan Snyder Memorial Trophy; the OHL’s Humanitarian of the Year, alongside Otters captain Tristen Trevino<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Egorov spoke on his excitement to join the Otters organization and what he brings to the table night in and night out for the club.<\/p>\n

    “I’m very excited to be joining the Otters this season,”\u00a0Egorov\u00a0<\/strong>said. “The Erie staff and management have been wonderful so it’s exciting to join another organization with high culture. I’m looking forward to a great year with a lot of returning guys and I can’t wait to compete in front of the fans and see what we can achieve.”<\/p>\n

    Otters Director of Hockey Operations\u00a0Scott Grieve\u00a0<\/strong>spoke on the fit Egorov is within the organization and what he brings from day one.<\/p>\n

    “We are thrilled to welcome David to our organization,”\u00a0Grieve\u00a0<\/strong>said. “Not only has David been exceptionally reliable throughout his OHL career on the ice but he is a tremendous person off the ice, being named a finalist for the OHL Humanitarian of the Year. We are excited to welcome a goaltender and person of David’s caliber to Erie.”<\/p>\n

    Egorov also has a big connection to the Otters organization as prior to his time in the OHL, he was coached by current Assistant Coach Ken Peroff\u00a0<\/strong>with the Hamilton Kilty B’s of the GOJHL.<\/p>\n

    Additionally and in a separate deal, the Otters have traded the rights to forward Jack Good\u00a0<\/strong>to Brantford in exchange for their 13th round pick in 2028.<\/p>\n

    Known as a reliable goaltender and a proven winner in his time in the OHL, David Egorov is a huge and exciting pick-up for the Otters and the organization is thrilled to welcome him to Erie and are looking forward to what he will bring to the team in the fall.<\/p>\n

    Erie, Pennsylvania — <\/b>The Erie Otters continue to be at the forefront of player experience and development within the OHL, and another addition has been made to the hockey operations department to solidify their position.<\/div>\n

    General Manager Dave Brown <\/b>and Director of Hockey Operations Scott Grieve <\/b>announced today that Tyler Travis <\/b>has been brought on to be the club’s Strength and Conditioning Coach.<\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n
    Travis, a native of Erie, currently works at Mercyhurst University as the Director of Strength and Conditioning for all of their varsity sports. He is no stranger to the Otters organization, having assisted in the strength and conditioning department at training camps over the last number of years.<\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n
    Travis brings over 15 years of experience training professional, college, high school and youth athletes. Previous to his time at Mercyhurst, he worked with the Erie Bayhawks, USA Hockey National Player Development summer camps and 3Ice.<\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n
    Last season, Travis was invited to assist with performance testing at New York Rangers training camp.<\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n
    Travis is active in the Erie community as the Director and Business Developer at Erie Sports Now Fitness & Performance Center by providing programming, coaching and sports performance clinics for all ages and training skills, onsite and remotely.<\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n
    He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Pennsylvania State University, the Behrend College, and then went on to earn his Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from Minnesota State University at Mankato.<\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n
    Grieve <\/b>spoke on what adding someone with the wealth of knowledge Travis possesses to the Otters organization means.<\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n
    “We are excited to welcome Tyler Travis to the Erie Otters organization as our Strength and Conditioning Coach,” Grieve <\/b>said. “Tyler brings a wealth of knowledge and a vast experience working at the NCAA Division I, USA Hockey, NHL and NBA G League level. Tyler possesses a passion for athlete development and a commitment to helping our players maximize their performance both on and off the ice.”<\/div>\n

    He also spoke on what this addition means to the Otters as they continue to push the envelope when it comes to player development within the OHL.<\/div>\n

    Reynolds joined the Otters coaching staff prior to the 2025-26 season and spent one season with the team overseeing the forward group and power play.<\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n
    Working alongside Head Coach Kris Mallette<\/b>, he would help to guide the development of forwards like Michael Dec <\/b>and Tyler Cooper <\/b>to incredibly successful seasons.<\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n
    During his time in Erie, Reynolds was a fixture in the Erie youth hockey community, working closely with the Erie Youth Hockey Association leading weekly practices.<\/div>\n

    Reynolds will be one of the youngest Head Coaches in the league and in league history after turning 28 in March.<\/div>\n

    Development is a key pillar of what the Erie Otters are about and seeing an assistant coach graduate to a head coach role within the league so quickly is an incredible feather in the cap of the organization.<\/div>\n

    Erie, Pennsylvania — <\/b>In celebration of the Canadian Hockey League’s 50th<\/sup>\u00a0season, the league has been conducting a countdown of the top 50 players to ever play in the CHL over its history.<\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n
    The league announced today that Erie Otters alumnus Connor McDavid <\/b>has been named number 4 on its countdown.<\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n
    McDavid was granted Exceptional Status by Hockey Canada, allowing him to join the Ontario Hockey League at the age of 15 and with the first overall selection in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection, he was picked by the Erie Otters and would become an integral part to a golden age of Otters hockey.<\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n
    McDavid would play in 63 games his rookie season, tallying 66 points (25G+41A) on his way to winning the Emms Family Award as the OHL’s rookie of the year, alongside breaking many Otters rookie records.<\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n
    The Newmarket, ON native’s second season in the Flagship City would see the Otters reach 100 points as a team for the first time since 2001 as he would help Erie to its first of four consecutive 50-win seasons and a trip to the Western Conference Finals. McDavid would tally 99 points (28G+71A) in his sophomore season finishing fourth in the OHL in scoring. He would take home the William Hanley Trophy as the league’s most sportsman-like player and the Bobby Smith Trophy as the OHL’s most scholastic player. McDavid would also be named the CHL’s most scholastic player in 2014.<\/div>\n

    McDavid’s final season in Erie would see him named captain prior to the season as he would lead Erie back to the J. Ross Robertson Cup Finals for the first time since 2002. McDavid would play in only 47 games for the Otters but would post a remarkable 120 points (44G+76A). He would add another 49 points (21G+28A) in the postseason on his way to being named the recipient of the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award for the OHL’s MVP of the playoffs despite Erie’s loss to the Oshawa Generals. In the winter, McDavid would lead Team Canada to a gold medal at the 2014-15 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships. McDavid would once again receive both the OHL’s and CHL’s most scholastic player, be named a first-team all star, finish with the best plus-minus (+60) and win the Red Tilson Trophy as the league’s most outstanding player.<\/div>\n

    McDavid would finish his Otters career combining playoffs and regular season playing in 200 games, tallying 353 points (122G+231A) and would go onto be selected first overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft where he has gone onto captain the Oilers to two Stanley Cup Finals alongside six Art Ross Trophies as the league’s top-scorer, three Hart Trophys as the leagues MVP, the Maurice Richard Trophy as the top goal-scorer in the NHL and the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP. He has won these awards alongside countless others during his time in the National Hockey League, on top of international awards and gold and silver medals with Team Canada.<\/div>\n

    On January 10, 2025, the Erie Otters would formally retire McDavid’s number 97 in front of nearly 7,000 at the Erie Insurance Arena, just the third number ever retired by the organization, in a truly unforgettable night, showcasing one of the best to not just wear the navy and gold of the Otters but to ever play in the OHL.<\/div>\n

    “Connor McDavid\u2019s time with the Erie Otters left a lasting impact on our organization\u2019s standards, culture, and development,” Brown <\/b>said. “His journey from Erie to becoming one of the world\u2019s greatest players sets a benchmark we continue to strive to meet. His legacy stands today, symbolized by his number in the EIA rafters. Connor elevated the Erie Otters brand to a global audience, and we remain committed to building on that foundation.”<\/div>\n

    McDavid’s impact on the city of Erie and the Otters organization cannot be understated, the amount of eyes he brought to the OHL and Erie as a whole on a nightly basis are unprecedented and his star continues to shine brightly in the National Hockey League as he stands as a testament to the Otters’ development model and pathway to success.<\/div>\n

    The countdown recognizes the greatest players from the Western Hockey League (WHL), Ontario Hockey League (OHL), and QMJHL since 1975-76, celebrating the stars who have defined major junior hockey over the past five decades. As part of the initiative, a panel of media members first selected the Top 50 Players of the Last 50 Years<\/u><\/a>. The final ranking order was then determined using a weighted formula that combined media and fan voting to rank the players from No. 1 through No. 50.<\/div>\n

Panelists considered a player\u2019s impact beyond the CHL \u2014 including NHL and international success, major awards and championships, and Hall of Fame recognition \u2014 alongside on-ice achievement in the Member Leagues, reflecting what players accomplished during their time in the WHL, OHL, and QMJHL through production, individual honors, team success, and sustained dominance.     [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Erie, Pennsylvania —\u00a0<\/strong>Last week, the Erie Otters, alongside Edgar Snyder & Associates made their way to the Erie Humane Society to present their donation from this season’s\u00a0Saves Program<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    All season long, for each save made by an Otters’ goaltender, Edgar Snyder & Associates would donate $1, home and away.<\/p>\n

    The total amount of saves collected by Erie goaltenders this season would be 1,989, meaning this would be the total donation heading to the Erie Humane Society, however Edgar Snyder & Associates added to the donation, giving $2,500 to help animals in need.<\/p>\n

    Erie Humane Society Executive Director\u00a0Joe Lang\u00a0<\/strong>spoke on the impact the donation will have and how it will assist the organization.<\/p>\n

    “Thanks to our incredible partners at the Erie Otters and Edgar Snyder & Associates, this generous support helps us continue our mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in need,” Lang <\/strong>said. “We\u2019re so grateful to have such dedicated community champions by our side\u2014thank you!”<\/span><\/p>\n

    Attorney Amber Manson-Webb<\/strong> of Edgar Snyder & Associates remarked on the donation and why this cause was so near-and-dear to their organization.<\/p>\n

    “Our firm believes strong communities are built on compassion and working together,” Manson-Webb <\/strong>said. “As an Erie native, teaming up with the Erie Otters to support the Erie Humane Society has been incredibly rewarding. We are thrilled to help the Erie Humane Society ensure every animal has the chance to be safe, cared for, and loved.”<\/span><\/p>\n

    Erie, Pennsylvania \u2014<\/b> Erie Otters captain Tristen Trevino has been named a finalist for the Dan Snyder Memorial Trophy, awarded annually to the OHL Humanitarian of the Year.<\/p>\n

    Trevino arrived in Erie this season and, not long after, was named captain. What\u2019s followed has been consistent, both in how he leads the team and how he\u2019s chosen to spend his time away from the rink.<\/p>\n

    It shows up most clearly at the Gliding Stars program, where individuals with special needs are given the opportunity to learn to skate. What started as a team visit turned into something Trevino returned to on his own. Week after week, for the rest of the season.<\/p>\n

    The connection is personal. With a brother on the autism spectrum, Trevino has a clear understanding of how important programs like this can be. It shows in the way he continues to come back.<\/p>\n

    The same pattern follows everywhere else. Community events, school visits, time at the Erie City Mission. He shows up, stays late, and treats it like it matters.<\/p>\n

    The Dan Snyder Memorial Trophy recognizes players who make that kind of choice consistently, giving their time in a way that leaves a mark on the community around them.<\/p>\n

    Trevino\u2019s season fits that description.<\/p>\n
