LAST TIME OUT
Coming out of a three-game series the previous weekend, the Otters hoped for swift wins in a split two-gamer between London, Ontario, and at home. Friday night’s matchup against the London Knights proved to be a tough one as the Otters fell to the Knights 6-1. London would strike first in the contest, Cal Hughes would fire back for Erie, netting his third of the season. The Knights would respond with five unanswered goals and defeat the Otters, evening the season series at a game a piece.
The following evening, the Otters found themselves back at home in the EIA to take on the Sudbury Wolves. Though the result of the contest ultimately ended in a loss, the Otters’ resilience showed promise for the rest of the season. It was a physical game, resulting in crucial power-play opportunities for Erie. Dylan Edwards was the first to take advantage of this, scoring within the first couple of minutes of the second period on the power-play, giving the Otters some momentum for the rest of the game. Then, in a whirlwind play in the last ten seconds of the period, it was the Otters’ leading scorer, Gabriel Frasca, to light the lamp for Erie, putting the game at a two-point deficit going into the final period. The Otters were steadfast in their efforts, fighting to gain leverage throughout the third period and keeping a high-pressure attack on Sudbury. Though the Wolves were able to sneak in two more goals, newcomer Jake Murray gave the Otters hope when he netted his first career goal as an Otter! The final result of the game was 6-3, Sudbury taking the win.

The Erie Insurance Arena will kick off the weekend at home for their first 3-2-1 Friday of the season, where fans can enjoy $3 Labatt Blue Light, $2 hot dogs, and $1 popcorn until the start of the third period, as well as 412 Night (pres. by Primanti Bros.)! Fired up for the OHL’s Rivalry Week against the Niagara IceDogs, we will see the Otters take the ice in the first specialty game jersey of the season inspired by the Steel City! Proceeds from the jerseys, to be auctioned off all weekend on DASH, will be granted to the Highmark Caring Place.
WHO TO WATCH
Named one of last weekend’s “Three Stars,” it’s no doubt that Gabriel Frasca has been a force for the Otters offense this season. Leading the team in points, goals, and assists, Frasca is a name you will be hearing a lot this season as he shows promise in his potential to lead the Otters to victory going forward.
Rookie, Jake Murray, also showed his great potential this past weekend, as the newcomer scored his first career goal in the OHL to close out the Otters’ scoring versus Sudbury on Saturday night. The match up against the Wolves might have just been the push he needed in order to continue aiding the Otters in their scoring efforts for the remainder of the season.
KNOW THE FOE
The Niagara IceDogs will be coming into Erie confident, fresh off of a win against Sudbury this past weekend.. The IceDogs are currently ranked second overall in the Eastern Conference and first in the Central Division. Niagara’s offense is lead by Ethan Czata, who was just recently named a Top Five Goal Scorer in the OHL as of Monday afternoon. Czata is currently sitting at eight goals for the season, with three assists, likely aiming to take this momentum into the IceDogs weekend in Erie.
The Brampton Steelheads have nearly split their luck this season, with four wins and three losses. However, their most recent game, coming out of Barrie the past weekend is sure to light some fire under them as they came up on top 5-3 in a scrappy win, starting the match off down two goals early on in the first period. Steelhead standouts so far this season have been recently-acquired forward, Joshua Avery, leading the team in points with four goals and four assists, as well as goaltender Zach Bowen who has been a powerhouse in net, coming up in big moments for Brampton.
