THREE STARS: Picking Up Points Before Post Season
Erie, Pennsylvania – The post season looms ahead, but there’s still plenty of fun to be had in the regular season!
In a four-game week, the Erie Otters took two wins from the week’s campaign as playoff seeding becomes crucial.
On the road for back-to-back games, the Otters first dropped a 7-5 decision against the Windsor Spitfires before defeating the Sarnia Sting 6-5. Back home for the final two games, Erie fell to the Niagara IceDogs 5-2 and finished their week strong with a 6-4 win over the Guelph Storm.
Here are the players who made this week happen.
THIRD STAR – MALCOLM SPENCE
Good things come in threes for our Third Star!
Across four games, Malcolm Spence grabbed three goals and three assists to bring his season point-total to an even 70!
Against the Sarnia Sting, Spence picked up one goal and one assist in Erie’s road win. Back home on Sunday against the Guelph Storm, Spence had a hand in four of the six Erie goals. With two goals and two assists, including an empty-netter in the final 23 seconds, Malcolm Spence earned First Star honors on the night.
SECOND STAR – SAM ALFANO
40 goals on the season for Sam Alfano!
On the road against Windsor, Alfano picked up his first assist on the week off a shorthanded goal in the second period to cut the Spitfires lead to 5-3. Against the Sarnia Sting, Alfano led Erie’s offense with two goals and two assists to earn First Star honors on the road before continuing his masterclass week at home. At home against the Niagara IceDogs, Alfano had another assist late in the second period on the power play. Finally on Sunday, Alfano had a three-point night with one goal and two assists, including the game winning goal early in the third period to ensure the Otters’ victory.
With nine total points on the week (3G+6A), Alfano is running away with his overage season.
FIRST STAR – PANO FIMIS
Your First Star of the week is none other than Pano Fimis! With four goals and four assists, Fimis was nothing short of spectacular on the ice.
