RECAP: Agrette Scores Second as Otters Fall in Ottawa
Ottawa, Ontario — The Otters would continue their three game jaunt through Eastern Ontario with a stop at TD Place to take on the Ottawa 67’s for the one and only time this season on the road before Ottawa makes their way to Erie in one week’s time. Coming off of their first regulation loss of the season, the Otters would look to use their rest to their advantage looking to get back in the win column away from home.
The contest would begin in even fashion as the Otters took an early penalty allowing Ottawa an early power play. Erie’s PK would hold strong and keep Ottawa off of the board. Erie would then go to work offensively but would not be able to find the breakthrough. The 67’s would create a couple looks of their own but would be unable to solve Otters’ netminder David Egorov on his final visit to battle his hometown team. Erie would get one power play in the period but would not be able to find the back of the net. Each PK would be perfect through one. The game would be scoreless and the 67’s would outshoot the Otters 12-5 after 20 minutes.
The second period would begin with the Otters on the front foot looking for the first goal of the hockey game. They would create chances but would not be able to find the back of the net. Finding themselves on a five-on-three power play near the half way point of the period after both teams would trade opportunities, it would be the home side to find the breakthrough. On the man-advantage, Ondrej Ruml (PPG, 2) would strike to make it 1-0 Ottawa. The 67’s would continue to pile on the pressure as following a turnover at the blue line, Zach Houben (GWG, 1) would slide one through the five-hole to make it 2-0. The Otters would respond moments later with a crazy deflection in-front Mclean Agrette (2) would be the beneficiary and would make it 2-1. The remainder of the frame would play out with some good chances either way but on a late power play Andrew Laurin (PPG, 3) would scramble one home in front of the net to make it 3-1 67’s, the lead they would take with them into the third period. Ottawa would out-shoot Erie 25-17 after two.
The third period would see the home team looking to see their way through to victory with the Otters hoping to climb back into the contest down a couple. It would be the home side to strike first as just under five minutes into the third, Filip Ekberg (4) would find the back of the net to make it a 4-1 game. Ottawa would continue to pile on the pressure as the period would wear on as down a man Brock Chitaroni (SHG, 1) would break free and score to make it a 5-1 contest. Just about six minutes later the 67’s would add another as Spencer Bowes (4) would strike to make it a 6-1 game. This would go onto be the final as Ottawa would hand the Otters their fourth loss in-a-row.
The Otters will conclude the eastern swing tomorrow as they take on the Kingston Frontenacs at 2 P.M. Following a visit to London on Friday, the Otters will return home to take on the Ottawa 67’s one week from today.
