Otters Drop Road Trip Finale 5-3 in Ottawa
OTTAWA, ON – The Otters began the game hoping to avoid going winless on their 5 day road trip. An early goal from Ottawa’s Graeme Clarke put the home team ahead, making bad things worse for Erie. Things temporarily improved, as Otters captain Kyle Maksimovich broke through the defense and scored a goal through the five-hole of Ottawa goalie Will Cranley. However, the 67’s followed this up with a goal of their own from Tye Felhaberto put the home team back on top heading into the first intermission.
The second period began with the teams trading opportunities in each other’s zone. The Otters broke through to tie the game at two when Kyle Maksimovich netted his second goal of the game on a shot from the right circle. A late goal from Marco Rossi put the home team ahead once again heading into the final period.
The 67’s began the period on the powerplay, when Gera Poddubnyi was called for tripping in the opening minute. Ottawa wasted no time when Sasha Chemelevski wristed on past Daniel Murphy to widen the lead to two goals. After being injured minutes earlier, Alex Gritz scored on a wrist shot to bring the Otters within a goal. The Otters were granted a powerplay chance in the final three minutes, but were unable to connect and consequently dropped their seventh game in a row 5-3 after a Tye Felhaber empty net goal.
The Otters will look to rebound Wednesday night when they take on the Niagara Ice Dogs at home at 7:00PM.
