NWPA AHEC WEEKEND PREVIEW: Getting Out The Rest of the West!
Erie, Pennsylvania – Another three-game week commences for the Erie Otters, this time entirely on the road as they take their final trip to the farthest reaches of the West Division.
On Wednesday, the Otters will travel to face the Soo Greyhounds for the first time this season, and only time on the road. They’ll have a brief day of rest on Thursday before taking to the road again on Friday to play the Saginaw Spirit. They’ll end the week on Saturday against the Flint Firebirds, where they’ll look to recreate their last victory over the Firebirds earlier in the season.

LAST TIME OUT
This past three-game weekend was something special for the Otters!
On Thursday, the Otters defeated the Niagara IceDogs in a thrilling 9-3 victory—their highest-scoring game in six years! Away against their divisional foe, the Guelph Storm, the Otters fell 7-4 before returning home on Saturday and downing the Sarnia Sting 4-0 for their second shutout in two weeks – and in front of a sold-out crowd on home ice.
WHO TO WATCH
Remember when we said Noah Erliden would be itching for more after earning his first shutout? We meant in. After beating the Barrie Colts 4-0 two weeks ago and earning his first OHL shutout, lightning struck twice for Erliden and he was instrumental in the Otters’ 4-0 victory over the Sarnia Sting last Saturday. With 26 saves, Erliden blanked the Sting to earn First Star Honors.
Tip your hat to Malcolm Spence! On Thursday’s 9-3 victory over the Niagara IceDogs, the alternate captain put up three goals for his first-ever OHL hat-trick! The very next day against the Guelph Storm, Spence had a hat-trick of assists, with three contributions on the four Otters’ goals.
KNOW THE FOE
The Soo Greyhounds won their last game against the Firebirds 6-2, bouncing back after a 4-0 loss to the Kitchener Rangers the day before. Players to watch for the Greyhounds include Brady Martin, the center with two goals and two assists in their victory over Flint, and Marco Mignosa, who racked up four assists against the Firebirds.
The Saginaw Spirit won their last two games against the Windsor Spitfires and the Flint Firebirds, 5-1 and 7-2 respectfully. Players to watch for the Spirit include Calem Mingone, who picked up a hat trick with three back-to-back-to-back goals four minutes apart in the third period against the Firebirds, and Michael Misa, the center on a scoring streak with a hat trick of his own against Windsor and 22 total goals on the season.
The Flint Firebirds lost their last two games, 6-2 against the Soo and 7-2 against the Spirit. Players to watch for the Firebirds include Blake Smith, who picked up two goals in Flint’s last three games, and Christopher Thibodeau, with two goals and one assist in his last three games.
