Fowler Records Three Points, Otters End Skid In 6-5 Shootout Win
Erie, Pennsylvania – The Erie Otters ended their three-game losing skid with a 6-5 victory in a shootout against the London Knights on the back of Hayden Fowler’s three-point effort Saturday night at Erie Insurance Arena.
Chad Yetman opened the game’s scoring less than five minutes into the first period with a one-timer goal assisted by Maxim Golod and Hayden Fowler on a great passing play between the three. London’s Connor McMichael tied the game nearly nine minutes later. Danial Singer scored a breakaway goal after receiving a pass from Fowler within the last five minutes of the period, and Fowler recorded his third point of the game when he scored on the powerplay later in the frame. Austen Swankler and Jamie Drysdale assisted on Fowler’s goal which gave Erie a 3-1 lead going into the first intermission.
The second frame began with a London goal from Jonathan Gruden. The Otters answered back less than two minutes later when Daniel D’Amato scored his seventh of the campaign. Knights forward Antonio Stranges netted two goals in 31 seconds to tie the game at four. The flurry of goals continued with Erie’s Emmett Sproule notching an unassisted breakaway goal and London’s McMichael earning his second goal of the night. The teams headed back to their locker rooms tied at five.
Both teams tightened up defensively as they limited each other to six shots each in the final regulation frame without any scoring. Erie required overtime and a shootout for the third straight game.
Yetman scored the only goal in the shootout as Erie’s first shooter as Aidan Campbell turned aside three London shooters to give Erie the decision. Yetman extended his goal scoring streak to eight games with his first period goal.
The Otters will look to continue their success against the Knights when they visit London Friday, November 1st, and start their third three games in three days weekend of the season.
