67’s Roll Over Otters With 2-0 Win
Erie, Pennsylvania – The Erie Otters were shutout for the first time in the 2019-20 season with a 2-0 loss against the Ottawa 67’s at the Erie Insurance Arena Saturday night in the second night of a three-games-in-three-days stretch.
The Otters began Saturday’s contest with hopes of building on the momentum from their gutsy 6-7 loss against London in overtime Friday night. The 67’s put the Otters on their heels early after Mitchell Hoelscher netted his 11th goal of the season. Minutes later, Daniel Murphy made a great save, quickly moving laterally across the crease to deny Marco Rossi what would have been his sixth goal of the year. Murphy recorded nine saves in the first period and the score was 1-0 after 20 minutes of play.
The 67’s defense continued to frustrate the Otters and Erie was held to six shots in the second frame. Austen Keating scored a short-handed goal at the 9:58 mark of the middle period to put Ottawa up 2-0 going into the second intermission.
Erie recorded 15 shots in the third period, but Ottawa goaltender Cedrick Andree held on to earn a 32-save shutout. The Otters will look to rebound Sunday afternoon when they host the Niagara IceDogs at the 2 p.m.
