Knights, Tigers face off in high stakes round robin game
After an opening weekend at the Memorial Cup that saw the Knights win both of their games against the QMJHL’s Moncton Wildcats and Rimouski Oceanic the focus now shifts to the WHL Champion Medicine Hat Tigers where the winner will book their ticket to the Final on Sunday.
After falling down 1-0 to the Oceanic early in the second, draft eligible defenceman Henry Brzustewicz scored his first career tournament goal to square things up. Easton Cowan, Kasper Halttunen, and Jacob Julien connected on an excellent tic-tac-toe passing play to poke the eventual game winner past Mathis Langevin before Cowan added an empty netter to propel the Knights to a 2-0 tournament record.
The Tigers, led by Gavin McKenna, have gotten off to a 2-0 start at the tournament. Minnesota Wild prospect Ryder Ritchie has opened the round robin with three goals in two games.
The Memorial Cup will be broadcasted on TSN all tournament long starting Saturday when the Knights and Wildcats face off in each team’s tournament opener.
