Knights prepare for battle against Wildcats in Memorial Cup Semi-Final
The stage is set as the London Knights and the Moncton Wildcats clash in the 2025 Memorial Cup semi-final. The winner advances to Sunday’s final against the Medicine Hat Tigers will the loser will see their season come to an end.
After a 2-0 start to the tournament, the Knights dropped Tuesday’s win and advance match with the Tigers, making their push to junior hockey glory an extra step harder. Kasper Halttunen continued his post season scoring ways, adding a 7th tally in just his 8th tournament appearance. Goal scoring has been hard to come by in the tournament, more so for the Knights, who left many potential goals on the table on Tuesday. The team has used the term “bear down” on their chances when referring to the solution to the goal scoring. They’ll face a tall task in Wildcats goaltender Mathis Rousseau who’s posted a .943 sv% in three tournament games.
The Wildcats won a QMJHL championship series rematch over the Rimouski Oceanic on Wednesday, booking their ticket in Friday’s semi. The Moncton offense broke out big time with six goals over the hosts. Prior to Wednesday, Wildcat forwards had not registered a goal in the tournament. Forward Gabe Smith will ride into Friday on the heels of a four point outing and player of the game honours.
Just last Saturday, the Knights won 3-2 in overtime over the Wildcats off a Sam O’Reilly redirect.
The Memorial Cup will be broadcasted on TSN all tournament long starting Saturday when the Knights and Wildcats face off in each team’s tournament opener.
