The IceDogs Win the First ‘Battle of the Dogs’ with a 5-2 Victory in Game 2 of Preseason
BRANTFORD, ON – The IceDogs took the first matchup of ‘The Battle of the Dogs’ with a 5-2 win over the Brantford Bulldogs. The IceDogs were full of firsts tonight on the board with all goals coming in from the newest additions to the line-up. This result should have fans very excited to get the regular season underway.
The Battle of the Dogs kicked off with physical play from both sides. Both teams had their chances but it wasn’t until former IceDogs captain Zak Lavoie snuck one past Charlie Robertson giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. It wasn’t long after the IceDogs would strike on the powerplay as Callum Cheynowski and Ryan Roobroeck set up newly acquired Andrei Loshko with a one timer past David Egorov to tie it up before the end of the first.
The IceDogs came out flying in the second with 2 goals by newly acquired defenceman, Jack Brauti and a slick finish by 4th overall pick Braidy Wassilyn, the IceDogs were able to take a commanding 4-1 lead. With big saves by Robertson, the IceDogs took the 4-1 lead to the locker room with the final frame looming.
Robertson was the story in the third as he came up big time after time keeping the IceDogs 4-1 lead intact. It wasn’t until halfway through the third that the Bulldogs were able to get one by him, with Jake O’Brien finding Washington Capitals prospect Patrick Thomas in the slot in an attempt to close the gap. The Bulldogs were forced to pull their goalie as the seconds wound down, where Kevin He closed the game with the empty netter.
The IceDogs look to follow up this performance with another good effort in a rematch with the Bulldogs, at the Meridian Centre this Sunday. $1 of every ticket will be donated to the Humane Society of Greater Niagara so come out for a fun afternoon in support of the Humane Society!
