Ryan Roobroeck Breaks Another Franchise Rookie Record In Heartbreaking Loss To Steelheads
NIAGARA, ON – Ryan Roobroeck’s 28th goal of the season and 49th point sets a new franchise record for points among rookies. However, the IceDogs fall in heartbreaking fashion as Steelheads win it with 31 seconds left.

Starting Goaltenders: Ryerson Leenders (Mississauga) – Charlie Robertson (Niagara)
Despite double digit shots from both sides, the opening period would end scoreless in large part of both goaltenders, Ryerson Leenders and Charlie Robertson. Leenders would make a solid 11 saves in the frame, shutting down the IceDogs’ shooters. However, it would be Charlie Robertson stealing the show with a jaw dropping save. The Steelheads appeared to have a wide open night before Robertson came diving across, full stretch to deny the shot. This would keep the game tied at 0-0 heading into the second.
The first period was the Charlie Robertson show but the second period would belong to Ryan Roobroeck. After taking a pass from Urban Podrekar, he would wire one past Leenders for the lead and his 28th of the season. With this goal he would record his 49th point of the season, passing Akil Thomas for the franchise rookie point record which was previously held at 48 points. This goal, alongside of a game total 33 saves by Robertson would see the IceDogs up by one heading into the third.
The final period would provide all dramatics as the Steelheads pushed for the equalizer. Charlie Robertson was doing everything in his power to keep the Steelheads shooters at bay but a collision at the net would force him to leave the game, stopping all 43 Steelheads shots he faced. Owen Flores would come in relief of Robertson. Mississauga would continue to pressure the IceDogs net and would find an equalizer at the 14:21 minute mark to finally break the IceDogs defence and goaltending. With the period winding down it had appeared that this game was headed to overtime, however, the Steelheads were able to squeeze one five-hole with just 31 seconds left to take the lead. They would add an empty net goal to seal the win.
