Niagara IceDogs hire Evan McGrath for a Player Development role
ST. CATHARINES, ON – The Niagara IceDogs have hired Evan McGrath for a Player Development role.
Long-time OHL fans will recognize the name Evan McGrath, drafted in the first round of the Kitchener Rangers in the 2002 OHL Priority Selection, Evan went on to play four seasons with the Rangers. From winning a Memorial Cup in 2003 and making the playoffs every year he played with the franchise, McGrath ranks 4th overall in all-time points in Kitchener Rangers history. The Oakville native was part of the CHL Top Prospects Game and the OHL All-Star Game multiple times. Evan was also part of the Canada U-18 Team at the World Junior Challenge U-18 in 2003/04.
In the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, McGrath was selected in the 4th round, 128th overall by the Detroit Red Wings and later signed with the club. The former centreman went on to play a successful 13-year professional career, starting in the American Hockey League and eventually venturing off to Europe.
Currently living in Niagara Falls with his family, McGrath will be joining the IceDogs Hockey Operations team.
