Niagara Earns First Playoff Win in Six Years
NIAGARA, ON – The Niagara IceDogs delivered a gutsy performance on Monday night, securing a thrilling 6-4 victory over the Barrie Colts to cut the series deficit to 2-1 in the best-of-seven first-round playoff matchup.
Looking to respond after two tough road losses, the IceDogs came out energized in front of their home crowd. Ryan Roobroeck opened the scoring just past the seven-minute mark of the first period, giving Niagara an early spark.
The second frame saw a flurry of action, with both teams exchanging blows in a high-paced, physical contest. Blake Arrowsmith restored the IceDogs’ lead at 11:29, but Barrie responded with two quick goals to take their first advantage of the night. Refusing to back down, Alex Assadourian fired back less than a minute later, tying the game at 3-3 before the period ended.
The IceDogs saved their best for the final period, showing resilience and composure. Kevin He delivered on the power play at 9:05 to even the score at 4-4 after Barrie had briefly taken the lead. Just three minutes later, Assadourian struck again, netting the game-winner on another power-play opportunity. He sealed the victory with an empty-net goal in the final minute, securing a well-earned IceDogs win.
Owen Flores was solid between the pipes, making key saves time and time again to keep Niagara in control down the stretch.
With momentum on their side, the IceDogs will look to even the series at two games apiece when Game 4 takes place on home ice this Thursday night at the Meridian Centre.
