Final Score: SBY 4 – NIA 3 (OT)
Starting Goaltenders: Marcus Vandenberg (Sudbury) – Charlie Robertson (Niagara)
The Niagara IceDogs were looking to spoil the return of former IceDog, Marcus Vandenberg, who was getting the start in net for the Wolves. It would be Sudbury who would get on the board first however, as overage forward, Landon McCallum, went up high past Robertson for the Wolves lead. The IceDogs would have answer as Kevin He cut across the slot on a 2-on-1 and beat Vandenberg up high for the his team leading 22nd goal of the season. Charlie Robertson would make some impressive saves with the period coming to a close to keep it a tie game heading into the second.
Things seemed to be turning into the Wolves favour early in the second as they were awarded a powerplay. The IceDogs would loose the ensuing face-off but Kevin He would win the puck battle and chip it by the defenceman and onto a breakaway as he slid it five-hole past Vandenberg for his second of the game and the IceDogs lead. Despite the IceDogs lead the Wolves would respond with a goal of their own as Coughlan managed to beat Robertson on a 2-on-1 to even things back up. Later in the period the IceDogs would be awarded a five minute powerplay after a scary hit by Andre Anania on Evan Klein. The IceDogs were unable to capitalize on the powerplay as the game headed into the third all tied up.
It would be an early start to the third as the Wolves were awarded a powerplay, only for the IceDogs to find their second shorthanded goal of the night to put them ahead. Kevin He took the puck over the blueline, cutting to the middle and firing a shot that created a rebound that was swept home by Gavin Bryant to make it a 3-2 IceDogs lead. With under 10 minutes to go the Wolves would gain another powerplay opportunity and they would make no mistake on this one as Quentin Musty batted it out of mid-air to tie the game up at three.
With the game in overtime the Sudbury Wolves would win a defensive zone draw which led to David Goyette finding Quentin Musty back post for the game winning goal.
