Kevin He Plays OT Hero As IceDogs Beat Petes
PETERBOROUGH, ON – Kevin He plays overtime hero with his 24th of the season, Gavin Bryant and Ryan Roobroeck both have two point efforts as IceDogs beat Petes in a back and forth affair.
Final Score: NIA 5 – PBO 4 (OT)
Starting Goaltenders: Charlie Robertson (Niagara) – Liam Sztuska (Peterborough)
The Petes grabbed the opening goal of the game just minutes in as Carson Cameron beat Charlie Robertson from the face-off dot to make it 1-0. With the Petes controlling play for majority of the period, including a few powerplay opportunities, the IceDogs were looking to get something going. The all rookie line, Galiyanov, Czata and Roobroeck would provide as Ryan Roobroeck and Ethan Czata combined for Czata’s sixth of the season to even the score. The rookies weren’t done there as a pretty shot from Ryan Roobroeck beat Sztuska on the powerplay to give the IceDogs the lead. This would cap off a two point first for Roobroeck as the IceDogs lead by one heading into the middle period.
Despite trailing the Petes would jump right back into it with a goal just 24 seconds into the period to even things up. The IceDogs would then get in some penalty trouble once again, halting their offensive efforts. After numerous successful kills they were looking to get back in front. On a innocent play, Mike Levin would create a turnover behind the net and find William Stewart out front as he picked his spot up high to put the IceDogs back in front. Masen Wray would then find the back of the net minutes later for his first in an IceDogs uniform to extend the lead to two. They would take this lead into the break.
A new period but the same story for the Petes as Quinton Page would get a quick one for Peterborough to bring it back to a one goal game. With the clock winding down in the period the Petes would find the equalizer at the 17:09 mark. This would send the game into overtime.
With under two minutes to go in overtime Gavin Bryant would steal the puck in the offensive zone then found Callum Cheynowski who looked backdoor to Kevin He who one-timed in the yawning cage for the IceDogs OT win. Overcoming the blown two goal lead in third period.
