IceDogs Win Season Opener in Ottawa
OTTAWA, ON – Owen Flores stopped 48 and the IceDogs power-play scored 3 second period goals in a 3-2 season opening win in Ottawa Friday night.
Outshot 16-8 in the opening twenty, the IceDogs penalty kill kept the 67’s off the scoresheet twice, with the help of Flores heroics.
After giving up an early goal in the second, Kevin He tied the score on the man advantage at 4:36, with help from Alex Assadourian and Matthew Virgilio. Mike Levin’s power-play snipe at 8:30 gave the visitors from St Catharines the lead, with Andrei Loshko and Assadourian chipping in. Loshko’s first in the OHL came late in the middle period on a nifty Kevin He feed with Virgilio picking up his second point. In a wide open period, Ben Boudreau’s side recorded 21 of the 36 shots on goal.
A third period tally brought Ottawa within one but they would get no closer. The 67’s held a 19-2 shots edge and a 50-31 advantage over 60 minutes.
The IceDogs will look to make it a perfect weekend Sunday afternoon with a matchup in Kingston. The home opener happens Sunday October 6th versus Brampton.
