IceDogs’ Two Game Winning Streak Snapped By The Bulldogs
NIAGARA, ON – The IceDogs fall in front of 4856 fans at the Meridian Centre, snapping their two game win streak. Owen Flores made 40 stops, making that four straight games with at least 40 saves.
Final Score: BFD 5 – NIA 1
Starting Goaltenders: Matteo Drobac (Brantford) – Owen Flores (Niagara)
The first period would not go in the direction the IceDogs had envisioned as they would find themselves down 3-0 after a couple goals from Jake O’Brien and a goal from Washington Capitals prospect, Patrick Thomas. The IceDogs would come close on a few occasions with Ethan Czata having a great look backdoor before Matteo Drobac made an incredible sprawling save with the paddle of his stick. A few minutes later Mike Levin would ring one of the post on the powerplay. They would keep sustained pressure throughout the period but could not solve Drobac.
The Bulldogs would keep the goals coming as Canadians prospect, Florian Xhekaj, would beat Flores with a one timer on a 2-on-1 to make it a four goal game. The IceDogs would have a response as Ivan Galiyanov feathered in a beautiful pass to Alex Assadourian in the slot who hammered it home, top shelf, to get the IceDogs on the board. Despite the IceDogs answer, the Bulldogs would get it right back as they were awarded a 5-on-3, eventually scoring with the IceDogs still down a man after killing off the initial penalty. It would be a 5-1 lead for Brantford heading into the third.
The final frame would provide no difference as both teams went goalless in a rather uneventful period. Both goalies would make 12 saves in the period with Owen Flores‘ total standing at 40 saves and Matteo Drobac’s total sitting at 31 saves. The IceDogs will get a chance to get right back in the column tomorrow as they visit Oshawa Generals.
