IceDogs Take Down Otters
ERIE, PA – The Niagara IceDogs secured a thrilling 5-2 victory over the Erie Otters on Saturday night at the Erie Insurance Arena, securing a huge road win to improve to (29-27-4-4) on the season.
After a scoreless first period, Niagara wasted no time in the second frame, striking early and often. Kevin He opened the scoring just 4:50 in, burying his 34th goal of the season to ignite the IceDogs’ offense. Just over a minute later, Blake Arrowsmith doubled the lead, finishing off a rebound in front of the net to make it 2-0 IceDogs.
Niagara weren’t done yet, as Ryan Roobroeck delivered the eventual game-winner with a highlight-reel short-handed goal at 8:55, finishing a feed from Noah Van Vliet and Kevin He to give Niagara a commanding 3-0 lead. Erie responded late in the period on the power play, with Callum Hughes cutting the deficit to 3-1 heading into the final frame.
Niagara restored their three-goal cushion early in the third when Sean Doherty wired home his 14th of the year off a setup from Jack Brauti and Roobroeck at 3:44. Erie pushed back, as Martin Misiak made it a 4-2 game with just under six minutes to play. However, Kevin He sealed the deal with an empty-netter at 17:30, capping off a two-goal night and securing the statement win for the IceDogs.
Goaltender Owen Flores was also excellent between the pipes for Niagara, making 39 saves in his return from injury to keep Erie at bay.
Niagara will look to build on their weekend momentum with a matchup against the Brampton Steelheads tomorrow, Sunday, March 16th at the Meridian Centre at 2:00 PM.
