IceDogs Stop The Sting
By ROD MAWHOOD
NIAGARA, ON – A Ryan Roobroeck hat-trick led the Niagara IceDogs to a come from behind 4-3 victory over the Sarnia Sting.
After honouring a pair of St. Catharines hockey legends in Marcel Dionne and Brian Cullen in pregame banner raising ceremony, the IceDogs wearing specialty 80’s jerseys in support of Community Care St. Catharines and Thorold, and the Brain Injury Association of Niagara, would take a 2-1 lead into the third period.
However, the visitors would respond with two quick goals in 80 seconds early in the final frame to take the lead.
Roobroeck would tie the game midway through the third and then win it with 48 seconds left in regulation time, giving the sophomore forward twelve goals on the season, and sending home the Niagara faithful with free cheeseburgers.
The IceDogs visit Brantford Saturday afternoon to complete a three-in-three, and next return to action at home next Sunday afternoon in a return match against the Bulldogs.
Tickets are available through the Niagara IceDogs or Meridian Centre Box Office.
