IceDogs Split Home and Home Against Bulldogs
NIAGARA, ON – After registering a 5-2 victory Friday night, the Niagara IceDogs closed a home and home against the Brantford Bulldogs with a 5-2 defeat Sunday afternoon at Meridian Centre.
After a scoreless first period in which the homeside enjoyed a 13-6 shot-advantage, rookie Braidy Wassilyn opened the scoring just 15 seconds into the middle stanza with his second of the preseason.
The visitors took a 3-1 lead, before Ethan Czata connected on the powerplay with his second of the exhibition season to make it 3-2 Bulldogs after 40 minutes.
Brantford would add two goals in the final frame and connect on three powerplay goals for the game.
“We played a team game for one period and then individualistic,” said IceDogs Head Coach Ben Boudreau. “Tendencies from last year we are trying to correct.
“There were a lot of special teams today and when you give a good dangerous team too many chances sooner or later they will capitalize.”
Boudreau was also quick to praise Wassilyn.
“He looks ready to jump right in.”
Owen Flores faced 42 shots in Niagara’s only home preseason game, as Brantford outshot the IceDogs 42-34 overall.
The IceDogs close their exhibition schedule in Windsor on Saturday September 21 against the Spitfires, before dropping the puck on their regular season six days later in the nation’s capital against the Ottawa 67’s.
Niagara’s regular season home opener is set for Sunday October 6 against the Brampton Steelheads.
