IceDogs Show Incredible Resilience but Fall to Colts in Game Four
NIAGARA, ON – The Niagara IceDogs put forth an extremely hard-fought effort in front of a passionate Meridian Centre crowd in Game Four on Thursday night, but came up just short in a 6-3 defeat to the Barrie Colts. With the result, Barrie now holds a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven first-round playoff series.
Niagara came out with purpose in a spirited opening period, drawing first blood on the power play. Andrei Loshko buried his second of the playoffs at 11:20, firing home a one-timer blast off a sharp feed from Jack Brauti and Alex Assadourian to give the IceDogs an early lead.
The second period saw an offensive surge from both sides in what quickly became a back-and-forth contest. After Barrie tied the game early in the frame, the IceDogs answered back with a rebound chance on an initial shot from Ryan Roobroeck that ended with Mathieu Paris ripping home his second of the postseason at 9:48.
Barrie would respond with a pair of power-play goals, but Niagara continued to show fight. Alex Assadourian continued his hot streak, notching his fourth of the series at 16:23 to tie the game once again, with assists from Roobroeck and Virgilio – both of whom recorded multi-point nights.
Despite the IceDogs’ strong push and a determined group effort, Barrie capitalized early in the third and added insurance late, including an empty-net goal in the final minutes to seal the win.
Owen Flores was incredible for the IceDogs from start to finish in this one, facing heavy pressure and making incredible saves time and time again.
Niagara now turns its attention to a must-win Game Five on the road in Barrie. With their backs against the wall, the IceDogs have shown they can rise to the occasion and will look to channel that fight as they aim to keep their season alive.
