IceDogs Open Preseason with a 8-7 Shootout Loss to the Petes
PORT HOPE ON, – The IceDogs fall short in a shootout to the Petes in the first game of the pre-season.
The IceDogs came out strong, setting the tone with an early hit from Matthieu Paris in the first period. Alex Assadourian quickly put the IceDogs on the board, finishing a setup from Mike Levin. IceDogs rookie Matthew Humphries made several solid saves early, but the Petes soon scored three unanswered goals. Grayden Strohack was the first to break Humphries’ save streak, followed by a tap-in goal from Chase Lefevre. Lefevre then added another with a slide across the net, making it 3-1 as the teams entered the second period.
The second period began with a high level of physicality. The IceDogs cut the Petes’ lead to 3-2 when Mike Levin fired a shot into the top corner. The Petes then responded with two quick goals: Joseph Cadorin scored with an assist from Brennan Falkner and Martin Matejiek, followed by Caden Tayor, who found the net with help from Adam Levac and Lefevre.
The IceDogs answered with a goal from Ryan Roobroeck, who finished off a pass from Braidy Wassilyn. Assadourian then scored to narrow the gap further, making it 5-4 as the teams headed into the third period.
The IceDogs started the third period with a Power Play opportunity. Paris scored unassisted to tie the game then Czata followed quickly with assists from Paris and Matthew Virgilio. Moments later Paris came back again with another unassisted goal, giving the IceDogs a 6-5 lead.
The Petes quickly responded to prevent a two-goal deficit. On a 4-on-4 situation, Nico Addy scored with assists from Grayden Strohack and Brennan Faulkner, bringing the Petes level at 6-6. Chase Lefebvre then scored to put the Petes ahead, with assists from Aiden Young and Addy. The game was tied again at 7-7, forcing overtime.
The Petes won in a shootout resulting in a final of 8-7.
