IceDogs Fall to Frontenacs on Saturday Afternoon
KINGSTON, ON – The Niagara IceDogs battled hard but fell to (27-22-3-4) on the season, after a 6-3 loss to the Kingston Frontenacs on Saturday afternoon.
The IceDogs faced early adversity, conceding three goals in the first 13 minutes, including a short-handed tally just 2:37 into the game. Kingston capitalized on their early momentum, quickly putting Niagara in an early 3-0 deficit.
Despite the tough start, Niagara responded with resilience. Andrei Loshko got the IceDogs on the board with a power-play goal at 15:35 of the first period, set up by a great passing play from Mathieu Paris and Jack Brauti. Unfortunately, Kingston answered back quickly, as they scored less than a minute later, restoring their three-goal advantage.
However, the IceDogs showed no quit, pushing the pace in the second period. Kingston extended their lead to 5-1 with a power-play marker early in the frame, but Niagara continued to fight back. Mathieu Paris struck on the power play midway through the period with a perfectly placed wrist shot, cutting the lead to 5-2.
Niagara’s power play continued to shine, as Andrei Loshko netted his second of the night at 19:00 of the second, bringing the IceDogs within two heading into the final period.
The third period saw a determined effort from Niagara as they pressed for the comeback, but Kingston’s defence held strong. Despite several quality scoring chances, the IceDogs ultimately couldn’t find the back of the net – with the game ending 6-3 in Kingston’s favour with the Frontenacs adding a late empty-netter.
The IceDogs will look to get back to their winning ways on Wednesday, February 26th against the Owen Sound Attack at Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre at 7:00 PM.
