IceDogs Fall in Shootout Heartbreaker to Steelheads
BRAMPTON, ON – Tonight’s game was a barnburner in Brampton as the Steelheads jumped out to an early lead, scoring three unanswered goals in the first period.
However, IceDogs forward Kevin He responded with a powerful goal on the man advantage late in the period, marking his 18th of the season. The IceDogs weren’t done yet, as Ryan Roobroeck added another power-play goal with just 1:22 left in the first period, cutting the Steelheads’ lead to 3-2.
The second period was a defensive battle, with both teams holding the line and the Steelheads maintaining their slim 3-2 lead heading into the final frame.
In the third period, the IceDogs were determined to stay in the game. Kevin He set up Ivan Galiyanov for the game-tying goal, tying it up at 3 goals apiece. With the Steelheads unable to respond to the IceDogs’ relentless comeback, the game moved into overtime.
Overtime saw IceDogs goaltender Owen Flores deliver a series of show-stopping saves, keeping his team alive and pushing the game to a shootout.
In the shootout, Steelheads captain Porter Martone opened the scoring, while Kevin He and Ryan Roobroeck were unable to match and find the back of the net. The decisive moment came when Luke Misa sealed the game with a final goal on the Steelheads third attempt, sealing the win for Brampton.
The incredible comeback was not entirely for naught, as the IceDogs were still able to secure a single point in the tough road loss.
