IceDogs Drop Overtime Battle to Petes
PETERBOROUGH, ON – The Niagara IceDogs fall to (15–9–1–1) on the season following a 4-3 Overtime loss against the Peterborough Petes Sunday afternoon at Peterborough Memorial Centre.
The IceDogs jumped out to a quick start, scoring two goals in 29 seconds around the halfway marker of the first frame. Matthew Virgilio lit the lamp to start the scoring, swiftly followed by Kevin He adding his team-leading 20th marker of the campaign just 29 seconds later.
Peterborough answered back shortly thereafter to cut the lead down to one before the first period concluded.
The second period saw rookie standout Braidy Wassilyn pot his third goal of the season, adding to his strong afternoon including one goal and two assists.
However, Peterborough did not falter as two late-period markers tied the game up at three heading into the third.
A tightly contested third period yielded neither team any result on the scoreboard, as the game progressed into Overtime.
In the extra frame, it was Peterborough who emerged victorious – on the back of former IceDogs captain Gavin Bryant, who scored the game-winning goal for Peterborough.
The IceDogs will be back in action on Friday night when they host the Brampton Steelheads at the Meridian Centre.
Tickets are on sale now through the Meridian Centre and IceDogs office.
